COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On the farm way too long, ol’ McDanko began showing some worrisome tendencies. Following a solid session in the hot box smoking malt, he was overcome by a methane cloud emoted from the herd. Ya heard? Reaching for the hops, he goofed and grabbed porky by the e-i-e-i-oh and plopped her in the brew kettle slow and low —that is the tempo. Knock knock —who’s them? It’s McDanko’s inbred neighbor, Geri Reynolds, swinging by delivering his deliverance with some fat back hem and some fat back them. Stepping out past some Foxy brothers picking a banjo on the porch to sample his wares, McDanko, doubled over the chopping block and squealed like a pig – wieii wieii — proclaiming this to be the most bodacious bacon beer brewed this side of the Chattoog-a!

Bottle. Deep, dark brown in color with a small, tan head. Aroma had the smokey smell but not overpowering. Taste is rather smokey but with some coffee undertones.

Can thanks to wombat23. Dark brown with a dirty tan head that’s foamy, somewhat fizzy, and soon subsides. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, smoked ham. Taste is bittersweet, full of smoked flavors, bbq, brown sugar. Finish is warming, somewhat harsh, ends with chocolate notes. Body is medium. Overall a middle of the road porter with a smokey, meaty twist. Good.

Dark brown almost black in appearance with a brown head. Flavors of sweet cherries, roast, slight smoke and hints of coffee.

Mild smoke aroma, with a touch of roast. Pours pitch black with a thin dark tan head. Smoke flavor is there, but not as pronounced as some smoked beers. I’m not picking up any salt, which I would expect with the talk of bacon and pulled pork. Full bodied, lingering smoke on the finish. Not bad, but not really what I was looking for.

DOC: 5/4/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 32A Classic Style Smoked Beer (base style: 20A American Porter)

AROMA: Minor smoke aroma; slightly sharp. Fairly strong presence of dark malts and chocolate. Hops are noticeable as well with a citrusy/floral character. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Dark black with brown edges. Large dark tan foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: More sweet than smoky/roasty, but not especially sweet overall. Dark malts drive the palette with general bittersweet chocolate taste throughout. Hops are actually quite prominent and exhibit a citrusy/floral taste. Bitterness is moderate. Smoke only appears briefly on the finish and is rather mild; there is no sensation of bacon or wood. Aftertaste is a little astringent. 10/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Texture is smooth. Hops, roasted malt and smoke leave a mild astringent aftertaste. Seems much lighter than 7.7% ABV. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Decent porter at the core, but does not work as a smoke beer. 5/10

TOTAL SCORE: 29/50

A great red ale. Just a little hoppy. We love it. At about 7.5% ABV it is very drinkable. Very smooth! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

16oz can pours a muddy brown with a ring of tan head. Nose is malt and smoked and BBQ sauce, root beer. Flavor is big and chewy with malt and BBQ sauce, earthy. Finishes dry and smokey.

Can. Pours a dark brown body with a nice creamy one finger frothy brown head. The nose is chocolaty, roasty, and lightly smokey with some burnt caramel. The flavor is pretty smoke forward, balanced by a nice chocolate, roast, and coffee base. Finishes a little sweet with some lingering smokiness. Medium bodied and slightly clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice smoked Porter.
