Dark brown almost black in appearance with a brown head. Flavors of sweet cherries, roast, slight smoke and hints of coffee. Nephilium (1821) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - JUL 1, 2017
Mild smoke aroma, with a touch of roast. Pours pitch black with a thin dark tan head. Smoke flavor is there, but not as pronounced as some smoked beers. I’m not picking up any salt, which I would expect with the talk of bacon and pulled pork. Full bodied, lingering smoke on the finish. Not bad, but not really what I was looking for. 2015 BJCP Category: 32A Classic Style Smoked Beer (base style: 20A American Porter)
AROMA: Minor smoke aroma; slightly sharp. Fairly strong presence of dark malts and chocolate. Hops are noticeable as well with a citrusy/floral character. 8/12
APPEARANCE: Dark black with brown edges. Large dark tan foam retains and laces well. 3/3
FLAVOR: More sweet than smoky/roasty, but not especially sweet overall. Dark malts drive the palette with general bittersweet chocolate taste throughout. Hops are actually quite prominent and exhibit a citrusy/floral taste. Bitterness is moderate. Smoke only appears briefly on the finish and is rather mild; there is no sensation of bacon or wood. Aftertaste is a little astringent. 10/20
MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Texture is smooth. Hops, roasted malt and smoke leave a mild astringent aftertaste. Seems much lighter than 7.7% ABV. 3/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Decent porter at the core, but does not work as a smoke beer. 5/10
TOTAL SCORE: 29/50
A great red ale. Just a little hoppy. We love it. At about 7.5% ABV it is very drinkable. Very smooth!

16oz can pours a muddy brown with a ring of tan head. Nose is malt and smoked and BBQ sauce, root beer. Flavor is big and chewy with malt and BBQ sauce, earthy. Finishes dry and smokey. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 4, 2017
Can. Pours a dark brown body with a nice creamy one finger frothy brown head. The nose is chocolaty, roasty, and lightly smokey with some burnt caramel. The flavor is pretty smoke forward, balanced by a nice chocolate, roast, and coffee base. Finishes a little sweet with some lingering smokiness. Medium bodied and slightly clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice smoked Porter. smaynard6000 (1225) - Apopka, Florida, USA - APR 28, 2017
On tap. Black in color with foamy beige head. Roasty aroma with smoke. Slightly sweet with big smoke flavor and some roastiness. Medium bodied and quite smoky. Good. hopscotch (11181) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 17, 2017
Can... Pours black with a large, frothy, khaki head that diminishes to a tiny, off-white collar. The aroma features apple wood-smoked malts and milk chocolate. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. The flavor is a touch roasty, but mainly chocolaty, smoky and bittersweet – more sweet than bitter. This is kind of odd, but also kind of good. I’m not a big fan of the Sweetwater portfolio, but other than being a bit too sugary, this is solid. No money wasted.
