1L Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy copper amber with a thin web of wispy white lacing head. Big fresh piny grapefruity resiny hoppy nose has a rich, sweet caramel maltiness for support. Body starts with a fairly full sugary carmel maltiness and big citrusy bittering and flavor hops. Finishes slightly warming and bittersweet. Seems a bit too fresh and unbalanced right now, but should age pretty well.

A Mes rate. Bottle at LCRBM #5.
Hazy amber coloured with a thin off white head. Rather sweet all round with lots of caramel. Deep chewy malt with a bit of balance from some nice fruity hoppage. Bitter citric finish with a drying feel and an alcoholic aftertaste. Decent beer.

5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - DEC 21, 2009
Bottle:   Rusty amber, fairly cloudy and hazy, moderate off-white frothy head, decent lacing.   On the nose this already seems aged, malts that are a little dusty, slight earthiness, dull hop aspects.   Rather citrusy up front, not very malty, mild sweetness, some basement.   After having a bad bottle I am happy to say that this, while only about 1.5 years old, seems as if has aged longer but still has some legs.   A rather light and simple Barley Wine, clean, but not very big.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate... perhaps could stand to be a bit thicker.   Lingering citrus peel, not overly sharp... but thats about it.   A bit more hop and much more malt would make this an outstanding brew, but as is its fairly good.   Thanks Tom for the opportunity to try this!

2007 PP SAF Bottle from Beeryum, thanks: Deep amber hue with small but lasting head and some lace. The aroma has notes of grassy and resiny hops, bready and caramel malting, peppery and apricot esters, earthy. The taste starts sweet and thanks to a bit of spice, hop bitterness and fruity twang it does not become to much to handle. The mouth feel is sticky and lush with a cleansing alcohol finish. A good one that aging will change.

Poured a hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, floral hops, caramel malts, resin, and dark fruits. Taste of caramel malts, juicy dark fruits, pine, tobacco, resin, and a bitter hoppy finish, with some light alcohol as well. Thanks to Steve for this one!

Bottle courtesy of TBC. Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of caramel, lots of fruity hints. Taste is a little messy with a lot of chewy malt and some resiny hops. Average.

Seriously? I get to rate this first? WooHoo! Im awesome! Huzzah for me! Anyway, this made a surprise appearance the 2007 Asheville Brewgrass. I accidentally cut line to score some of this, so I guess I burned a lot of Karma getting this. Its caramel colored, with a big beige head. Huge aroma, with plenty of sweet caramel aromas and plenty of huge hop aromas. Lots of sweet flavors at first, like toffee and some fruity apple-y notes. Then it melds seemlessly into a huge piney, sticky hop finish. Seems a little raw, but not in a negative way. Good now, and i would love to let one sit for a year or so.

( 22oz bomber thanks to mar) Pours a clear yellow-orange with very low head. Some oily bubbles. Nose of citrus, grapefruit, caramel and quite bready. The taste is pretty bitter with a linger of grapefruit oils. Wish it was sweeter.

Thanks Springslicker. A deep amber pour with not much head at all. A fruitiness beyond dried fruit that has na almost tart aroma. A semi sweet flavor that is solid with a very good bitter. Solid palate with good carbonation. A good BW that I think will get better with age. Thanks Jay

In short: A mega-hoppy fruity barley wine that feels like a buttery Triple IPA. Good.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh soon after purchase. Tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Slightly cloudy dark orange body topped by a ring of foam
In long: Nose is mega-hoppy, lots of fruity hops esters, mostly citrus fruits. Taste has lots of caramel, round and chewy. Lots of fruity hops with flavour of citrus fruits and marmalade. Non aggressive fruity bitter finish. Well balanced. Comes through as a Triple IPA more than a barley wine. Simple but effective flavour spectrum. It could have been very good but it looses points because I was getting a light but annoying buttery flavour. All in all it was just good with the potential to be very good. Its a Donkey Punch and it doesnt kick ass. Logical.
