12 oz bottle. It pours a dark brown or black with a small quickly fading light tan head. It has a roasted aroma and smells of coffee & chocolate. It has a wonderful complex flavor and tastes of chocolate, smoke, coffee, leather and tobacco. I love this beer and will probably buy it if I see it available again. Light, nutty smell, no discernable head, dark brown color, had this from the bottle. Tastes nutty as well. wnoble (1251) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JAN 21, 2014
Bottle thanks to SSSteve. This one evidently ages well. Nose is tootsie roll, bready, toffee, light toasty chocolate. Flavor is similar with a light sweet and floral hop finish. Really nice and the best beer I’ve had from sweet water. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - JUN 20, 2014
Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade.
This one was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy brown color. The head was about a finger’s worth that died in about a minute and left some adequate lacing.
The smell had a nice blend of roasty sweet chocolate with an ample amount of coffee notes to intrigue my nose.
The taste had a nice roasty sweet flavoring rolling over my taste buds.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice smoothness rolling over my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a really nicely done Porter very worthy of having again. marksahara (79) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - DEC 24, 2006
On draught at multiple locations in ATL, including brewery and in bottle (before temporary discontinued). Prior to hiatus, it poured a deeper, darker, and more opaque brown with a creamy moderate crown and extremely good retention and lacing. New batches seem clearer but still retain their good crown retention properties. Aroma is toasty and sweet, with strong chocolate and coffee notes, and a notice of molasses and toffee, maybe even caramel. Sweetness in flavour is balanced well with a nice but not overly burnt malt taste, and subtle hop character. Very satisfying medium body with mild carbonation and a crisp finish, not something I usually encounter on porters. New batches don’t taste, overall, as good as what it used to be. I can see why it won all those awards back in the day. This is IMHO the best beer Sweetwater used to make and I always look forward to enjoying a few pints when they bring it back to their brewery tastings.

I received this as an extra from a friendly GA BA. This poured very dark black with a good sized head. The smell was really good with chocolate and cocoa coming through. The taste was more cocoa and also chocolate chip cookie dough. I really liked this beer and I usually don’t like porters at all. Excellent.

Draft at ATL. Dark maroon color, thick beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of peppery burned toast. Taste is dark coffee, bitter cicoa, burnt edge medium bidy. Tasty. jrodooo5 (1672) - DOVER, Delaware, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Mmmm. This beer is a chocolate malty goodness! It pours black and has a robust chocolate/roasty aroma. The label is dead on as it has a medium body with a very light and creamy mouthfeel. There is a nice hop bitterness in the finish which really makes this beer! A flavor explosion that goes down quite easily! Very well done! Pours nearly black with a short, light brown head.
Aroma is soft chocolate, malt.
Taste is chocolate malt with a slight nut/coffee bitter.
A hint of hops.
A nice one.
