Red-brown body topped by healthy beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, nutty, chocolate, caramel, light roasty. Taste is mild sweet, nutty, chocolate, some roasty, light caramel, coffee, light cola, earthy, finishing with some anise. Watery light medium body. Iced glass may have contributed to the wateriness. hopscotch (11159) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 14, 2006
Draft... Sterling, VA location... Clear, copper ale with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki-colored head. Good retention with very thick lacing. Nutty, malty nose with subtle milk chocolate and piñons (pine nuts). Malty, chocolatey flavor, but perfectly-balanced. Medium-bodied and creamy with medium carbonation. Based on previous ratings, I’m thinking there have been improvements to the recipe... maybe more malt. Same frozen glass, though. Very nice brown ale. radagast83 (8119) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JAN 21, 2011
Draft at Merrifield, VA location. Poured a relatively clear dark brown color with a medium sized white head. Aroma is roasted malts, touch of coca, earthy hops. Flavor is a great nutty one with notes of earthy hops, roasted malts. This was the highlight of the evening. decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - NOV 18, 2011
Deep amber pour with off white head and lace. Aroma of roasted malt, light chocolate, and earthy hops. Sour malt, toastiness, light chocolate, and a light bitter. Medium bodied and a tad fizzy for me. TheBeerGod (6233) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - SEP 27, 2009
Growler from the Sterling location. Pours coppery brown with a tall tan head. Aroma is hoppy, floral, and nutty with light cocoa and sweet malt. Some spicy hops come through as well. Taste is bigger nuttiness, spicy and earthy hops, cocoa, sweet malt and toasted notes. Body is light-medium and strongly carbonated, for a growler pour. Finishes with more cocoa, earthy hops, nutty flavors, toasted malts and light chocolate.

Light cola nose with bit of toffee. Taste is lightly sweet with some raisins and dark fruit, lots of caramel and a bit of roast at the end. Decent brown ale. DCLawyer (2846) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Draft at Sweetwater-Merrifield. From memory. Pours a dark brown/amber with white head. Very malty with a hint of chocolate. Good, but one dimensional. jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - NOV 10, 2004
First of all, the chilled glass is really too much! After a lengthy wait for hte beer to cool the medium tan head had disappeared. Dark ruby/brown. Nutty aroma. Nutty roasted malt, and medium to light hoppiness. Medium-light body. Not offensive or anything (other than the frozen glass) but just there. kathouse (1911) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - AUG 30, 2004
Pours a deep garnet. Clear, with a light tan foam. Nice toffee aroma, sweet with a mild hop odor. Nice body, well carbonated, smooth. Raisiny, bread, and nuts with some sweetness. Slightly bitter with a mild after taste. Goes well with Cheddarwurst. blank (996) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 24, 2007
draft, middle of the road brown. Nutty but fairly unremarkable. A fairly generic brown beer.
