A very enjoyable porter. Dark ruby with lots of black. Fine brown head with excellent lacing. Fruity roasted malt aromas. Very nice smooth roasted malt, typical porter flavors. Medium bodied with a very nice lingering finish. kathouse (1942) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - JUL 9, 2004
This is a very pleasant beer. Aroma is a nice mixture of hop and malt. The deep brown color is covered with a thin, but persistent tan head. Nice lacing. Roasted flavor is delicious; finish is dry although not as long as I’d like. Good body and carbonation. I recommend it. meathookjones (245) - Sterling, Virginia, USA - DEC 7, 2004
Had a few of these at the Sweetwater in Sterling Va. This appears a very very dark brown almost black color with a light brown head that leaves a good bit of lace as it is drank. Aroma consists of a bittersweet dark chocolate scent mixing with roasted coffee. The roasted smokiness is the main flavor component with elements of coffee, chocolate and a bit of earthy hop blending together to form a great tasting porter. The finish is a dry bitter one that balanced out the sweetness and smokiness. This is a medium bodied brew with good creamy mouthfeel to it. I had a few of these when I was there and could easily down a few more, recommend if you are there and its currently being brewed.

(Draught) Pours a drak brown body with a medium-sized creamy beige head. Aroma of rich chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor of heavy roastiness, oatmeal, cocoa, and caramel. A rich dessert! BeerandBlues2 (14018) - Escondido, California, USA - AUG 21, 2011
Tap at Merrifield location. Pours black, near opaque with dark brown highlights with a medium, frothy and bubbly tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is roast, chocolate, and nutty malt, no detectable hops, light fruity esters, dates, and plums. Flavor is chocolate, roast, dark caramel malt, light wood, light bitterness (some is malt derived), dates, plums, and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth.

Draft at restaurant. Super dark redish/black that lets a touch of light through. No head left when it arrived at the table. Simple flavor of roasted grains. Decent burnt flavors, dark coffee, sugars, and a bit of hops. Not very complex or memorable, but a good, basic porter. blank (996) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 14, 2004
good sloid porter, nice dark color with a light porter aroma. Beer is still served too cold, but has a nice malty flavor. Still a little light, but i’n sure it will improve at it warms up... i’ll keep you updated :) MilkmanDan (1942) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - AUG 18, 2005
Dark with a thin, light brown head, nice sheeting. Lots of chocolate in the nose, more milky than bitter, also a bit of molasses. Flavor starts out a bit thin, then a nice sweet chocolate rush with a bit of smoke and coffee bitterness. jefcon (1935) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - SEP 2, 2005
Draft. Dark brown with a tinge of ruby in the glass, but thin-looking. Chocolate, coffee, smoke on the aroma, with some hop greeness. A little bit of a bite for a porter, and bittering on the finish made this a thinner, dry porter without the heft and creaminess of the style. Still, a strong flavor profile made the beer enjoyable. jasonp (1581) - Ashburn, Virginia, USA - OCT 13, 2005
UPDATED: OCT 29, 2007 Dark brown (almost black) with a light brown head. Very light roasty aroma. Flavor has notes of roasted/burnt malt, caramel, chocoalate and coffee. Moderately sweet, roasty finish. Tasty. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Lacing hangs on the glass in thick sheets, good head retention. Nice porter.
