Translucent chestnut, oily cream top, large bubbled ring. Nose is rich roast, wood, caramel sweetness in check by grain. Flavor is fantastically balanced, so much toasty grain and honey, huge balance, yet so delicate through the silky finish. Fantastic shit. ryan (3185) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - JUL 13, 2010
I think this should probably be listed as a schwarzbier. Big roasty, chocolate nose, some light toffee and a touch of molasses. Nice and dry taste, lightly bitter, lots of milk chocolate, a bit of roast, very light smoke and a bit of molasses. Medium/light body is silky smooth with moderate carbonation. Brilliant stuff! Growler. Clear brown pour with a very fluffy light tan head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, and licorice. Lightly sweet chocolaty flavor with some cracker and smoke. Goes down real smooth and easy. Some bitter hops to finish. Amazing session beer. jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - DEC 28, 2003
Dark brown ruby with a creamy tan head. Big roasted malt aroma with some smokiness. The flavor is roasted malt with some bitterness with chocolate and coffee backing it up. Medium body, smooth nice finish. brainlair (236) - Maryland, USA - JUL 13, 2010
Deep thin brownish amber, with some white head. Aroma is very mild, with a touch of sweetness, chocolate and malt. Flavor has roasted malts, caramel and a moderate sweetness. Malty finish with bitter hops.

Growler thanks to EricE. Huge tan head formation. Rocky and sheen. Great lace and retention. Roasty, sharper nose with some melon fruitiness. Taste is tangy, roasty, mild coffee, soil, earth. Dry, tangy palate. Drier. On style. Sessionable roasty lager.

Growler shared by ryan at the RBSG Grand Tasting... an interesting place to pad my dominance of Virginia beers. Neat! Pours a clear brown color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and nutty notes. The taste is caramel. nutty notes and roasted malts. Medium bodied. Nice. guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - SEP 17, 2004
Dark reddish brown appearance with a head that looks like it was nitro poured. Aroma was filled with toasted malts, coffee and a hint of nuttiness. Medium-bodied flavor that was just a tad on the thin side. Reminded me more of a schwarzbier with the moderate bitterness and lack of fruitiness.
