A deep reddish rust color, with a significant head and lacing. Cherry and hickory on the nose are quite pleasant. Lots of chocolate and caramel in the aroma and flavor. A good amount of carbonation gives weight to the beer. Bittering on the finish. A nice, long dunkel that geos far beyond the grain ingredients to give substance and style to the beer. changeup45 (1731) - Lake Mary, Florida, USA - AUG 29, 2010
Draft at Falls Church. Amber color, thin long-lasting head. Good lacing. Caramel malt, a touch of sweet hops, roasty notes with chocolate and oatmeal. Interesting beer. It tastes like an Amber but has the chocolate, oatmeal and roasty notes. It’s all light and thinish with none of it coming through strong. Pretty solid beer. jasonp (1581) - Ashburn, Virginia, USA - APR 6, 2005
Dark amber red with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and light floral hops. Flavor has notes of toasted malt, caramel and nuttiness with a light hop character. Mouthfeel was medium with moderate carbonation. Decent lacing, ok head retention. Although I havent’ had many dunkels up to this point, I was expecting something on the sweeter side with more body, and a hint of smoke I guess. Overall this was ok. Draft at merrifield. Pours a clear red brown with a thin white head. Light malt aroma with slight chocolate note. Light roast flavor with noted of chocolate. Good bitter hop finish. Bitterness is probably the most dominant flavor. Decent lager though not the best from sweetwater. blank (996) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 20, 2005
good color and aroma for a dunkel , but i found the taste to be underwhelming. There was very little malt or sweetness. Just a slighly bitter hop flavor which should never be strong part. Good try but no.

One of the five beers in a sampler pack. This one was in the middle (rate-wise). A fairly decent lager, nice color, easy to drink, but served much too cold. The flavor and aroma would have been more prevalent if a little warmer. But that could be said with all the beers served that night. I hope to not purchase this particular beer again, however. It is appropriate that it is named a lager even though it is truly a dunkel in style. It is a weak version of the style. That means it is better than the average beer, but still a disappointment. JamesD (244) - Centreville, Virginia, USA - MAR 1, 2008
I think this is a very decent dark lager. It’s nothing extraordinary but it has a very nice, crisp maltiness that is tasty, yet refreshing. I will probably buy more of it.
