Very chocolatey, even smells that way. Good
bitterness. Just what you want in a stout. Drinkable,
and has tinge of coffee. hopscotch (11181) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 10, 2004
This beer rocks!
Midnight black, sparkling clear, ruby ale. Good retention and lacework. Notes of cocoa, cream, espresso and vanilla. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, burnt, coffee finish. World class stout! epf33 (227) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAR 23, 2008
an amazing stout, roasty flavor, black color, brownish white head, aroma similar to that of guinness argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 14, 2002
The aroma is rich chocolate with a bit of coffee. The taste is fairly balanced between chocolate and coffee, very tasty, malty good. Hops present for balance but not very noticeable on their own. Good beer, but a bit watery. blank (996) - Austin, Texas, USA - OCT 30, 2004
growler: Impressively dark stout with a daark brown head that tried to leave the glass. A burnt malt flavor with a very dry flavor. Mild aftertaste, but that was expected. A decent offering.

Draft sample at falls church. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and complexity of this one. Nice bittersweet chocolate flavors. Roasted coffee aromas. Slight sweet smooth full bodied finish. ryan (3186) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - JUN 28, 2010
Nice dry stout, clean yeast, well attenuated, light chocolate and a touch of cola. Medium/light body is soft with light carbonation. Nice stuff. meathookjones (245) - Sterling, Virginia, USA - MAY 7, 2005
Reviewed from a recent trip to the Sterling Sweetwater. This came out with a black body and a slight brown head. Immediately you can smell the roasted malt and coffee aroma. Flavor is not all that complex as the strong roasted malt dominates anything else in the beer. Maybe slight notes of coffee, the aftertaste was dry and bitter as well. Mouthfeel was about medium to light with a smooth feel to it. Ok drinkability as the roasted flavor does get a bit old after a few glasses but overall a pretty good brew. radagast83 (8301) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - MAR 6, 2008
Draft at Merrifield Va location. Pours an extremely dark color - almost black. Extremely dark brown colored head. Aroma is roasty. Flavor is roasty, with touches of chocolate. It’s pretty smooth - and compliments a dinner quite well. GenDV138 (7579) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2016
