An extra strong variation on the regular Vlo, for the 25th anniversary of De Bierkoning, a bottleshop in Amsterdam. Also dryhoppped with Centennial hops. Note: the bottles mention 7% ABV and not the word Extra but has an extra label that says "Extra Speciale Vlo, tgv 25 jaar de bierkoning. Koudgehopt 9% vol alc.".

Thanks to Jan from Bierkoning I have opportunity to taste this beer. The looks of the beer is quite murky. Head is white and there is some sediment in bottle. Taste is quite fresh considering that this also has clearly a bit of alcohol. Aroma has citrus and lightness. Delightful almost wheat beer, but somewhat spring bock style drink. I am probably giving this a little bit too good rating, but I have such good memories about the Bierkoening and the people behind counter over there that anything associating to them will get couple extra points.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein minimal trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig süß, alkoholisch, belgische Hefe. Geschmack sehr malzig alkoholisch, fruchtig, würzig

(33 cl bottle) Pours an amber colour, with a bubbly off-white and very sizeable head and chunks of sediment. Aroma is earthy, peppery, and spicy with some maltiness and an almost Brett-like funk at first. Then grassy hops take over. Taste is light to medium bitter and a touch sour. Lively carbonation, long finish with hoppy aroma accumulating on the palate, medium body. Interesting, as long as one likes it a bit funky.

On Tap @ the. Brewpub The head is robust and creamy. The taste is defensive alcoholic-flowery, creamy, strong malty and hoppy. A bit like cherry-liqueur. Special, interesting and good! 12/10/9/11/-11

[Thanks to bierkoning]. 33cl bottle. Murky orangish colour with a dense off-white head, high carbonation after open the crowncap. Aroma is fruity and yeasty. Flavour is yeasty, moderate bittery and a final also bittery and dry. Carbonation is medium to high. Body is medium.

Bottle from Bierkoning, many thanks! Dark orange with a big head. Wow, this is such a multilayered beer. First of all there is an intense fruitiness - Centenniel citrus, apricot, banana, orange, fruit bubble gum, also some biscuity malt. Intense, sharp spiciness - cinnamon and pepper. With some time the fruitiness becomes less prominent, giving way to a huge barnyard/vinous/brettanomyces aroma. High carbonation, taste is sharp spicy and brettanomyces vinous and ends with quite a heavy bitterness. Again, with some additional time the fruitiness once more becomes better discernable but also the barnyard aroma gains on intensivity. Such an original and eclectic beer - the spiciness and alcohol like in a belgian strong ale, the bitterness like in a bitter, the barnyard aroma like in a sour ale. Can’t say it’s the best beer I’ve had, but certainly one of the most original.

Very foamy stuff. Rather earthy aroma with some sour notes and hints of spices. Flavour is really spicy, sour and somewhat tart with earthy notes. Belgian ale with really stinging spices – and a ’t IJ twist.

olio (10673) - Tampere, FINLAND - OCT 29, 2011
33 cl bottle. BBE 08/2011.
Pours hazy amber colour with medium head. Aroma of sour and ripe fruits, yeast, spices, grass and barnyard notes. Flavour of sour fruits, citrus, yeast, spices, earth and rowan berries. Quite sour palate with a dry finish.

330 ml bottle. BBE 08/2011.
Pours an amber colour with a large foamy head. Aroma of caramel malts, ripe fruits and citrus. Flavour of caramel malts, grapefruit, ripe fruits, yeast and some hops. Medium bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, warming, fruity and malty finish. Some sour notes as well. Fruity and warming Belgian Strong Ale.
