bottle at home. poured a hazy dark brown black colour with a nice lasting tan head. bitter chocolate, earth, yeast, burned sugar, small amount of roasted malts, some spiced pepper. small bitterness. overall a good black ipa. but it could use a bit more body erickok (6036) - Leuven, BELGIUM - MAR 21, 2014
Black bodied and tan head. Not as thick as expected though. Coffee, resin hops. Aromatic but not quite as rich as I hoped. Yeast is cleaner than I’m used to for ’t IJ. Bubbly mouth feel, bit too carbonated. I really wanted to love this, but although it’s tasty for sure, my hopes were a bit too high... Bottle. Pours a blackish brown beer with a big beige head on top. Aroma is yeasty, licorice, earthy hops and caramel malts. Medium fruity. Flavor is medium bittersweet, touches of both licorice and much juicy bitter hops. Hop character is not really defined in this beer, but certainly there. Medium short, light bitter aftertaste. Very decent. fkoolen (1403) - Maastricht, NETHERLANDS - MAR 18, 2014
Beautiful bottle. Deep dark brown colour, big foamy beige head. Surprisingly sweet hoppy nose with citrus fruits, strawberry but also some porter/stout tones to be distinguished like (roasted) coffee and cacao. These tones come back in the taste with mainly sweetness and citrus hops in the mouth and a roasty, dry aftertaste: near perfectly balanced, surprising and complex. Firm body, relatively high carbonation but very drinkable with a pleasant mouthfeel. Definitely a beer I’d recommend. Jeroenhensen (239) - Dongen, NETHERLANDS - MAR 16, 2014
Prachtig etiket, bijna zwart met crème kop. Lekker op smaak, alleen net te branderige mout smaak.

Bottle from Spar Spaarndammerstraat. Nice dark colour, slightly beige head. Little dull Blipa though, not that hoppy, sour aftertaste. kalervo (1044) - FINLAND - MAR 13, 2014
Decent moderately hopped black IPA. Lots of roasted malts with a hint of coffee. With a more edgy bitterness this could have been really really good. Svesse (8955) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAR 13, 2014
(Draught at ’t IJ, Amsterdam, 28 Feb 2014) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, cocoa, spruce needles and grapefruit. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, dark bread, coffee and a dry finish with a generous cocoa and resinous bitterness. More than medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well made black IPA. Very nice. lachneger (393) - NETHERLANDS - MAR 9, 2014
