Bottle from the BierKoning, Amsterdam. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy tan head. The aroma is grassy hop and light roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a lovely smooth spicy pepper grass hop malt palate and a short bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Perhaps the best beer I’ve had from ’t IJ. goozen (4081) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - MAR 2, 2014

Pours a dark black color (no surprises there). Smells of hops and laurel leaves. Strong taste, very enjoyable. dado93 (156) - ITALY - FEB 23, 2014
Dark brown color with good light tan head, hoppy aroma with citrus sensations, in mouth is with light carbonation, hoppy and roasted taste, in aftertaste like a sweet stout, coffee/licorice notes in good equilibrium with hop, one good BIPA with a beautiful bottle!

Fantastic aroma, and mouthfulls of flavour, fom a draft measure in brewery tap. Better than the ipa. Christos (5858) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - FEB 19, 2014
Bottle 330 ml at home, into a tulip. ABV 6.5%
A very darkbrown coloured beer, with two full fingers of beige, thick head sitting on top, taking its time to collapse. After quite a long time what remains is heavy lacing on the glass and a thin line of foam on the beer’s surface.
Very hoppy aroma, with grapefruit and orange peel upfront, while from the back aromas of roasted malts and dark chocolate are blending in.
Taste is also a blend of citrus fruits, orange peels, grapefruits, roasted malts, more coffee and less chocolate, with a nice and quite intense hoppy bitterness, traveling all the way to the aftertaste, where it lingers for a significant amount of time.
Medium body and good carbonation, with a bite on the tongue, just as much as it needs.
Overall a very enjoyable beer.

33cl bottle at home. Dark brown, almost black with a medium beige head. Medium body with lively carbonation. Sweet with a dry hoppy finish. Coffee, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, some brown sugar and wood. A quality brew from ’t IJ. DutchMark (398) - NETHERLANDS - FEB 14, 2014
Not my favorite ’t IJ beer but that’s probably because I am not a big fan of the style. The flavor is of burned malts some citrus and a lot of coffee beans and bitter hops. For me it is a bit too one dimensional. It does have a nice long bitter finish. PotjeBier (3455) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - FEB 12, 2014
On tap @ Brouwerij ’t IJ. Very dark color (light wasn’t good, so couldn’t see if it was black/opaque etc). Steady beige to light brown head, good retention & lacing. Aroma’s: resin, bay leaves/laurel, and retronasal there’s roast/coffee, chocolate. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted, moderate bitter. Medium bodied, quite high carbonation. Finishes roasted, chocolate, coffee and eventually a nice hop-bitterness. Nice!
