COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our bokbier that rings in the autumn every year. Dark and full-bodied, but not as sweet as you would expect. The fine, light brown head holds for a long time while the dark, black-brown beer releases the aromas of the roasted malt: brown sugar, caramel and beautiful, dark fruit. The aftertaste is pleasantly dry.

A dark amber pour with an off-white head. There’s a nice chocolate quality to this along with some toasted malt, bread, and caramel. A hint of spicy hops, and a light floral note. There is a bit of a cola note on the palate along with the sweet toasted malt and toffee. A bit of floral hops, some light spice and earth notes, and maybe a hint of vanilla sweetness.

Zwart bier met stevig schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig en niet zoet, met iets van pruimen, rozijn en karamel. Erg goede bok.

33cl bottle at home (19 XI 2016), shared with friends while we had a little bock beer happening. A brown to orange brew with a little white foamed topping. The nose is very hoppy, with dry-ish herb lingering features. The malt aromas make me think of dried rye. The taste is likewise with a sharp edge and some hay notes. The mouthfeel even has a little mint in there as well, which is quite lovely. The taste of course hints at those sweetish, hops and little bitter hints. The sugary chocolate has some roast aspects and caramel dashes. Pretty well balanced. The backbone is not heavy, just fine, this dunkler bock’s is lovely soft - with a very modest carbonation. The ending is, as expected, dry and somehow bitter-sweet. This ’t IJ IJbok clearly is one of the better Benelux dark bock beers: A very pleasant beer sensation.

33cl bottle picked up at the taproom in Amsterdam and enjoyed at home on 4-Nov-2016 in a long stemmed tulip glass. Clear dark brown colour with a medium sized off-white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma of malt, spices and caramel. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of chocolate, dark fruit, rye and caramel. Light bitter taste followed by a sweet dry finish. Complex, but still quite simple, Enjoyable.

Malty, slightly sweet nose. Tastes malty, good bitterness, caramel, lots of herbs and spices, used to get some smoke in this beer but not in this bottle. Big carbonation. Good.
