COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly called ’t IJ Scharrel IJwit A full-bodied, Amsterdam wheat beer that is dangerously ‘moreish’. Slightly cloudy, it has a beautiful golden colour and a soft, foamy head. When we brew IJwit, we use wheat malt as well as barley malt, which is also how the beer gets its name. The wheat malt gives the beer a delightful, fresh flavour, and the addition of coriander and lemon during the brewing process produces a rich aroma of banana, citrus and spices. Topped off by a fine, slightly sweet aftertaste, IJwit is a delicious thirst-quencher.

Bottle. Golden, hazy, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty - wheaty and lightly sweetish aroma, citrus with fruitiness, light spiciness (coriander) and yest. Body is medium, malty - wheaty and lightly sweetish flavor, light citrus with light fruitiness and some spiciness. Finish is average, malty - wheaty and lightly sweetish, light fruitiness and spiciness, faint citrus and alcohol. Nice fruity citrus aroma - flavor/finish is bit flat and lacks citrus fruitiness. Aroma and flavor not in balance.

Leighton (21489) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 29, 2011
Bottle in Amsterdam. Pours a cloudy, dull gold, hugely effervescent, with a sturdy, white head. Banana, yeast and bread on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, some sharp wheat, weak fruit notes, faint bitterness. Medium to full in body with high carbonation. A little warmth on the finish, nice sweetness, hints of dough. A little messy at times but pretty good.

laiti (8481) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 1, 2011
33 cl bottle, BBE 05.2012
Dryish aroma with citrus. Flavour is slightly sour, but sourness rises at the aftertaste. Citrus, coriander and hints of spices. Feels a bit hefeweizen too. Good and rather rich wit with nice sourness twist!

My collegues advised to try this one out. Thanks! ;-) Yellow unfiltered beer. Aroma of wheat, spices and lemon. Taste is yeast, wheat and citrus. One of the better ones in this style!

TET (3085) - Kaarina, FINLAND - JUL 1, 2011
Golden beer with a medium and blond head. Aroma is balanced, fruitness and yeast. Taste is fruitfull, spicyness, some yeast and sourness. Aroma and taste are both simple and quite mild, but still it works nicely. Medium bodied and nice to drink. Balanced beer without top qualities and misses, typical ’t IJ sourness is again nicely present.

Schroppfy (2360) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - MAY 26, 2011
How long have I wanted this beer? A very very long time, thanks to bierkoning for the bottle! 7%, and imperial wit, but old school! Murky and deep brownish yellow, smells of relatively muted spices (coriander, pepper). Wheaty, acrid flavors, acidic, fruity (slight banana), tangy, punchy, with pretty high effervescence. Some alcohol presence. Very drinkable for a 7% wit. I love wits, but not usually strong ones. Surprisingly drinkable.
