A basic Belgian ale has held up well but having tired of the fad of tossing everything in a whiskey barrel I found little to be excited about. The cost, coupled with the general meh-ness of the experience, makes this an instant pass from now on.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid base manages to effectively filter out about 70% of active light. A pearly head never settles. Beneath it the scent of Jack Daniels truffle balls dominates as if someone has spiked a Belgian ale with a shot of whiskey. Sticky vanilla just emphasizes this.
Flavor / Palate - Boozy chocolate truffles, malt, and cedar border on sickly sweet. The finish doesn’t relent as the taste hangs around the tongue and throat. A murky blend of base beer becomes overwhelmed - this might not technically be a bourbon bomb but it falls in the same camp.
Stubby bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, coriander, fruitiness, yeast, light vanilla, light oak and a hint of whiskey. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of caramel, fruitiness, coriander, light whiskey and a hint of oak with a smooth lingering caramel finish. edgallow (4211) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 28, 2015
11.2 oz bottle pours hazy brown with a thin off white head. Aroma of sweet malts, fruit, yeast and brown sugar. Taste is sweet fruit and yeast. Niko100 (2914) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 13, 2015
Rich amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, yeast, stone fruit, some caramel, & spice; Flavor of slight sweet malt, oak, yeast, tangy dark fruit, and spice; Dry finish; Tasted odd & oxidized - not sure if the bottle was off. radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 22, 2015
330ml bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida. Murky brown in colour, thin lasting beige head, excellent lacing. Aroma is sweet, alcoholic, some musty yeast, fruity. Flavour is quite sweet, noticeable alcohol, lots of fruit, chocolate, caramel. Warm mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes quite warm, sweet, lingering. Again, the barrel aging seems to thin the beer out way to much.

Bottle at home from backlog notes. Pours a hazy reddish amber brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have big barrel character, smoke, wood, whiskey, some spices, but the barrel dominated this, not my favorite. Alengrin (5382) - BELGIUM - OCT 26, 2014
Oak-aged spice ale with unstable, off-white head and a very fruity and rich aroma of peach, plum, woody tannins, single malt, coriander seed, brandy and madera; complex, fruity taste, sweetish with vivid spicy hints, drying coriander, smooth with a warming, woody, long and complex finish. jbrana (640) - NASHVILLE, Tennessee, USA - MAY 22, 2014
Tons of sweet dark fruit, peppery yeast, and slight black pepper flavor. Slight licorice and citrus. hotstuff (5160) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 11, 2014
Rated on 5-22-2010 (Bottle) When poured, this has a medium sized beige head that mostly diminshes, opaque orange brown body, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, coriander, spicy, and alcohol. The taste is sweet, sugar, spicy, coriander, and boozy. The palate is smooth and very warming. This beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this is a nice sipping beer. rubbishystuff (2538) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 12, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2016 Some whiskey, cherry, spices and woody flavors. Hides the strength well. Would be too much be there was a touch of sour which really balanced things out. Kind of just OK but also kind of really good. Serving: Bottle
