Poured a hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, nuts, wood, coriander, smoke, citrus, and light alcohol. UPDATED: JAN 9, 2009 Pours dark amber/red with a thin fine head. Warm nose of whisky, leather, wood and maple syrup. Kind of like a maple sugar christmas ham and a glass of whisky. Lots of smoke. Sticky. Not quite as good or refined as the De Dolle Oerbier Special Reserva I had last night which is matured in Bordeaux casks. 20th Rating of this brew, 12ozer, I think this was a bonus or a gift but I can’t recall. Pours orange with a half finger tan head. The nose is sweet and yeasty and has hints of spice. Taste is overall fresh and bold with some fruit and spice. Just had a glass of scotch before this, not sure how it shifted my palate. Not amazing but decent. Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured hazy brown color with a large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Complex aroma of yeasty, bourbon, woody and sweet spice. Body was medium with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Flavor was sweet & tart fruit with a medium bittersweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Good, not great beer.

Sampled at "An evening with Pantanap #2", from West Lakeview Liquors, Chicago. Red orange color with no head. Sweet semi-smoke aroma with lots of fruit and spice. I first had the Kerst that this was made from last year and enjoyed it, but here the whiskey cask maturing seems to have lessened its likeability. It pours a hazy brownish amber with a tall frothy head that does loads of lacing. The aroma is dusty toffee, brown sugar, dark juicy fruit, booze, and old wood. There’s a peppery spiciness to the flavor from the abundant alcohol and a touch of coriander. A citrus pulp bitterness jumps in midway and lingers through the finish. Dark mahogany pour with small white head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel and smoke. Flavor is straight wood, huge whiskey flavor and an extreme woody tree bark thing going on. Smokey as well with hints of the fruity spices that should not be aged in a whiskey barrel. A chalky off-taste with some burnt chocolate notes and a hint of vanilla. A so so Belgian strong. A little too rough for my taste but what do you expect for 11%. Aroma was very weak especially for this alky content. Dark fruits mostly but with a grassy/pumpkin note. Pour was beautiful. Dark murky brown/amber with a huge 3 finger tan head. Taste was very alcoholic. Strong malt and candied sugar flavors with a strong whiskey presence. Too sweet and sticky. So so.
