Smisje Kuvee Elektrik 979 W has become a wonderful beer !
9.0 vol% strong, dark to black colored beer with a subtle deep red shine.
The foam is quite amazing. Light brown (beige) colored with some fantastic textures.
Talking about a head, well this is one !! Amazing .....
After some while, the foam evolves into rocky solid structures, similar to the famous Duvel head, but this time more darker colored.
Tasting gives a Trappist Westvleteren 8 appearance !!! 80 IBU hop bitter. Sweetness mainly coming from rich use of dark candy sugar, but still the aftertaste is quite dry.
The hoppy bite, in combination with the sweet candy sugar is so typical for a dark Trappist beer. In this case I also notice some well balanced roasty malts. The new Regenboog yeast makes it even that more delicious.
No doubt, the recipe that is used here is a true wonder of brewing craftsmanship. Johan, GREAT job !
This is simply a masterpiece !
Draft. Originally categorised on RateBeer as a "Dry Stout". Very dark brown, almost black, in colour. Very heavily hopped (very earthy hops). Malty (roast/burnt malts, caramel, toffee, candy sugar, some chocolate). Fruity (dried fruits). Bit Spicy. Bitter earthy hoppy and roast malty throughout. Totally dominated by mega quantity of hops. Hoppy Dry Stout? or Hoppy Belgian Strong? Either way, it was a very decent beer. Enjoyed this. (2008)

A deep dark brown ale with a thick collapsing mocha head. In aroma, nice pungent chocolate malt, resinous floral hops, light sulfur notes, nice and complex. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with light caramel, barley candy, resinous hops, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle from Bièropholie. kraddel (7771) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - AUG 1, 2016
Pours dark brown, small white head. Smell is sweet, chocolate, port notes. Taste is sweet, dark malts, metallic, very metallic ! yeast on top of it all. Even slightly sour. Not ruined , but def to old for the style ( BBD 2012 ) Koelschtrinker (20208) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - DEC 26, 2015
Muffig käsefüßiger Antrunk. Modrig malzig, unrund, unsüffig. Langer Käsenachhall, hopfig. 9/3/5/3/5/3 Alengrin (5235) - BELGIUM - OCT 26, 2014
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2016 ’Massive’ ale (second version) with creamy, stable head and deep dark bronze colour, initially clear but hazy with deposit. Aroma of chocolate liqueur, peppery hops, dates, kahlua, butterscotch, ginger, banana. Rich candied fruit sweetness, banana, ripe pear, spicy with sharpish carbo, full and thick chocolatey maltiness, nutty as well, hop bitter finish with warming but not astringent alcohol. Well done, but this was in fresh condition many years ago and considering the ratings of old bottles here, it seems this beer did not age very well...

Bottle at Den Tatoverede Enke. Low fluffy white and quickly disappearing head. Hazy dark brown body. Wineous roasted malt caramel plum aroma. Dark dried fruit roasted malt caramel relatively sweet flavor with low carbonation and a long sweet finish. Well balanced so that the high alcohol percentage was not too dominant. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JUL 14, 2014
(Backlog) At DHL. Dark brown pour with tan head. Sweet fruit, belgian sugars, spiced aroma. Pear, sugars, plums, dark spice flavors, finishes with a touch of warmth. Sammy (12091) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 27, 2014
Bottle at L’Autre Oeuil. Peachy colour, bubbly gum and fruit taste. Fruity Belgian aroma. Good summer stuff. Stax (25) - DENMARK - APR 23, 2014
Way too strong for my personal taste but having said that it doesn't taste strong as such. Nice to try but moving on JefVerstraete (3302) - Oosterzele, BELGIUM - MAR 14, 2014
Hazy brown colour, thin layer of foam. Soft carbonation. Spicy aroma with notes of plums, caramel, dark fruit and brown sugar. Very well balanced. Sweet with bitter hoppy finish.
