Artisanal fruit beer made with sloe berries, which may sound exotic nowadays, but were commonly used in beer in medieval times. Moussy, off-pinkish, regular head, ’dirty’ bronze colour with pinkish glow, dark and cloudy. Powerful fruity aroma, obvious sloe berries, subjective hints of apple, strawberry, pear, cherries, rhubarb, ginger, cinnamon along with a fortunately very faint sulphuric presence (rotten egg). Sourish fruit taste, unripe plums, sorrel, green apple, strong carbo, light maltiness with vague sweetness but the (genuine) fruit acidity dominates and dries the palate, brief and late hint of hop bitterishness in the end.

18/IV/14 - 33cl bottle from Den Zytholoog / Bierloods (Adegem) @ home - BBE: 2010 (2014-371)

A rare find, that alas didn’t survive time. Although I’m not sure it was very good when fresh, either. Anyway. Little cloudy reddish amber beer, small pinkish head, irregular, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: dusty, cardboard, bit sourish. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, black currants, bit dusty, some cardboard. Aftertaste: bit lemony, cardboard, sourish, dusty, citric touch. Actually, the acidity of the berries is probably what keeps this beer pretty drinkable, but it has aged too much and was probably to low in ABV to survive properly.

33cl bottle from A Tutta Birra, Milan. It pours a peach color with a fluffy white head. Subtle fruit and brettanomyces aroma, yeasty. Definite horseblanket character in the flavor. I like this brewery

Why is it so hard to brew a decent non-lambiek fruit beer? Even Smisje kind of failed, since this beer is too sweet and a little metallic. A shame really.

MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 6, 2011
translucent tan. Nose has heavy brett rubber band, cherry, light earth. Heavy bandaid and rubber cement, light lemon and Brett. Finish is Brett citrus, bit of out of place smoke. Short smoke, bit imbalanced.

Strange vegetal and squash-y nose. Dirty dishwasher taste, some pinesol and a touch of rotten fruits.

Draft at Ginger Man NYC with Linh. Pours a hazy orange body. Aroma is very light fruit? Mouthfeel is incredibly thin and smooth with no carbonation (can’t remember if this was cask or not). DAMN YOU SLOEBERRIES!

Cloudy orange beer, sherbet nose. Very sharp note with unusual orange and tomoto tones. Good but a little bit too off the wall!

Parket (586) - Bruges, BELGIUM - AUG 31, 2010
bottle, reddish-amber coloured with small and unstable white head. Smell: like cigarettes, pipes and some blueberrys. taste: very smoked, blueberry, monotone, very strange and heavy beer! Beer for real man who want to try some fruitbeers.
