Sample at the brewpub. Clear copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of citrusy hops, pine and grainy malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Draft at source - nose is mosaic and a little resin. Sip adds citrus peel and juicy juice. Kapow what a wallop o’ bitterness. Not to be taken lightly. Maltier as it warms.

phaleslu (10731) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 19, 2016
Draft at the main bar, served in a pint glass (!). Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a small white head that lasts pretty much all the way down and laces the glass. Nice punch of fresh hops here, delivering juicy citrus and tropical fruits along with herbs and spice, complemented by a sweet caramel malt base and some honey-like sweetness, too. Some wisps of florals throughout. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a balanced mouthfeel between bitter, juicy, and sweet/malty. Very nice.

Draft to taster at Taft’s upstairs. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have citrus and tropical fruit, peppery, grass, some earthy, resiny notes as well, toasted malts, light caramel, solid.

Tap sample. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex hop aroma. Medium body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer met my expectations.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2016 4oz on tap at the main bar. Freshly tapped. Hazier orange golden color. Thin white head, leaving great, thicker lace. Awesome, massive hop aroma up front in the nose. Big floral, pine, peppery hop, citrus, tropical fruit flavors. Really great, really assertive hop. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Kind of more dry finish. Bigger bitter taste, mild bite to it. Lighter sweet taste. Bit of a toasty, malty character to it in the finish. Awesome DIPA. Need to revisit. 8/4/7/4/15

Re-rate, 2/2/16: Pint on tap at the brewery. Awesome, big piney hop up front. Some nice toasty, mild caramel malt to balance it out. Great dank and mildly tropical fruity hop notes. Mildly hazy orange amber pour, with a thin off-white head, leaving excellent thicker lace. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, with a nice lighter to moderate sweet balance. Just a touch of mustiness towards the end. Kind of a medium to bigger body, mild slick. Lighter, crisp carbonation. Full body, but not heavy as to impede drinkability. The balance of sweet malt and big hop make for a very smooth, flavorful DIPA.
