3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into a little(r) cup with one finger of head on a deep copper colored body.
The smell is faint; mild grain and bread. I was hoping for a little more.
The taste is nice with barnyard sweetness and mild lemon bitterness.
The texture is smooth with low carbonation.
A solid barleywine and enjoyable.
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a huge foamy tan head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was sweet, toasty, malty and had notes of caramel, cherry, fig and raisin. The flavor was sweet with toasty malts, caramel, tobacco, cherry, fig, raisin, plum and wood. Nicely complex. Medium length finish. Medium body. Alcohol well controlled. Well done. SudsMcDuff (8429) - .....Manchester United.........., Texas, USA - MAR 29, 2015

12oz bottle to snifter. Pour is a dark red with ruby highlights. A small off white head. Aroma is mostly caramel and candied sugar. Sweet smelling. First sip reveals a ton of complexity. Chewy. Toffee. Vanilla. Light booze. The barrel character is subtle and well done. The hops aren’t too agressive and the alcohol is hidden well. A very drinkable and enjoyable barleywine. Bottle courtesy of Håkan (non-RB). Gusher! Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown with a frothy goldenish brownish beige that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and slightly estery with caramel, toffee, baked pears, vanilla fudge, charred wood, toasted coconut, sweet dark bread and hay. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and malty with caramel, toffee, charred wood, toasted coconut, walnuts, pear skins, hay, liquorice and bourbon. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, fizzy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and malty with caramel, toffee, charred wood, toasted coconut, vanillin, hay and walnuts. Over-carbonated but except for that a nice sweet barrel aged barley wine. triximonk (49) - SWEDEN - OCT 14, 2014
Pours semi clear, red and brown with no head. Aroma is islandic chocolate with liqourish and hints of raisin. Taste is burnt sugar and raspberries. gEUS (1637) - Linden, BELGIUM - OCT 14, 2014
Bottle at home, gift as an extra in a trade with hannont (Todd Hannon), thank you very much my friend for this treat!. Pours clear dark amber with a intense ruby red hue, medium eggshell beige head. Aroma of nuts and raisins, a bit of the bourbon vanilla and quite some alcohol esters as well. Medium body, some alcohol sting, a bit watery but the barley sweetness comes through well by the finish. And then the best part: the taste is just pure and well dosed bourbon goodiness: the sweet oak, vanilla touches mixed with milk choocolate. In my humble opinion I this tastes a lot of Maker’s Mark and/or Wild Turkey. Nice drinkable not overly sweet barley wine. bhensonb (15208) - Woodland, California, USA - SEP 20, 2014
Bottle from Berkeley Bowl West. Pours really dark, but with strong light behind it, it is ruby. Slight tan head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, brown sugar. Med body. Maybe a bit more. Or not. Flavor is somewhat smoky oak, with brown sugar, bourbon and vanilla. The smoke seems strong. If it’s not smoke, I have no idea what it is. This is a pretty tasty and interesting drink. This beer pours a clear dark amber color with a medium fluffy light beige head that diminishes gradually. Sticky small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, oak and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of bourbon, roasted malt, caramel and slight dark fruit. The finish is actually pretty dry with an oaky bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
