500 ml bottle from Lifesource in Salem OR $5.79..on sale on a warm shelf so lets hope for the best Pours a ever so slightly hazed bright golden colour with a huge rocky/chunky white head. Not smelling much because of the thick head what i do get is a slight hint of peppercorn and dough. Taste very balanced.banana, yeast, drying and peppery ..slightly acetic with a hint of lemon drops. Very nice. Nice palate.smooth yet complex, perfectly carbonated..soft. A very enjoyable beer..pity i didnt pick it up 2 months ago!

Bottle (April 2016 batch?). Head is initially large/huge, frothy, rocky, white, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (barnyard), with notes of dried mango, cake frosting, plastic, bubble gum. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/fluffy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Wow, what an unexpected surprise! ITS NOT A SOUR ALE!!! Woo hoo! And beyond that, it actually delivers on the advertised rusticity. The aroma is close to being great, but does have just a bit of artificial character to it, kind of cakey and bubble gummy. But still, its not unlike adding a splash of Orval to a saison, with the dried fruit and plastic. Luscious mouthfeel and a very nice balance as well (its almost too sweet, but easily drank the whole 500mL with gusto...the finish of each sip certainly beckons another). And good grief, appearance does NOT get any better than this...huge, rocky meringue-like head that lasts until the very last sip, with that beautiful yeasty-hazy body. These guys have obviously actually HAD some top tier Belgian beers before brewing in their styles, unlike so many brewers in this country (or so it sure seems!). No doubt this needs a little refinement to be 4+, but man its close...and for all I know its much better when fresher, as the stamp on the label suggests this was bottled in April of last year (the ink isnt very clear)...very weird that these just hit shelves here. Sure hope this bottle isnt a fluke! Will definitely be keeping an eye on this brewery (and trying to find a fresher sample of this one)...Truckee, of all places! Like BFB out in Maryville TN, you never know where a talented saison brewer is going to turn up.

Draught. Pours a mostly clear light amber color with a moderate white head on it. Nose is pleasant, with floral notes and slight hints of funk, but lacks that great funk bite from a lot of saisons. Drinks very fresh and refreshing, but doesnt hit that saison "spot" I was aiming for.

500ml bottle. No apparent code date. Appearance: Crystal clear light golden with a medium white foam head. Aroma: Grassy, earthy, with some pepper and light citrus. A light bready maltiness lingers in the background. Taste: Starts with a light, thin, bready malt sweetness, followed by a light tartness that turns to a grainy, grassy, citrus peel, and black pepper finish on the swallow. Fairly strong bitterness for the style really hits on the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel: Fairly light body with a moderate carbonation. Finish: Really dry on the back of the tongue. An earthy, peppery citrus comes on quite strong retronasally. Overall: A grainy, light rustic saison that is very refreshing. Body is a bit thin, and a very light maltiness that is almost overpowered by strong saison esters and aromas of grass, pepper, and light citrus. Alcohol strength of the beer is well hidden. Really like the saison yeast character of this beer

Bottle. Hazy orange gold. Aroma is sweetly fruity with bready yeast. Flavours of ripe melon, bread, light funk and pepper. Interesting.

The nose is a nice mix of fruit in an apple or pear vein, and a good peppery grain. In the mouth its slick with a strong burst of fizziness. On the sweeter side, with a long, estery finish.

Hazy golden body with an airy, poofy head of foam. Bready, crusty, golden grain and doughy yeast aroma, lovely. Yeasty and bready body, filled with light grains and gentle esters. Quite filling. Grassy and doughy finish.

Bottle from Bottleworks.

Im going against the grain here. Murky pour, limited aroma but what is there smells like cooking rice and maybe some dusty saison if one strains hard enough. The flavor starts off ok, grain-rich and a bit sweet, but then some off flavor comes on -- I dont think Ive ever experienced it before in 2.3K previous beers -- that really seems like it shouldnt be in anything one would actually drink. I dont know how to describe it other than drinking the smell of a burning transmission. Its less acrid and in-your-face than that, but its there. This ruins it for me and itll be another expensive bottle down the drain. 1/3 with Tahoe Mountain thus far. One great one, two drain pours. At this price point, its not worth it.

tl;dr summary: Might be a nice (if sweeter) saison if not for a terrible off-flavor.

20151103 bottle. Aroma is fairly fruity with some overripe pear and stone fruit. Light citrus notes and hints of red apple. Some wheat and other grain notes. Light plastic phenolic note with more of a peppery, floral character. Pours a slightly hazy, copper color with some light red hues and a large, thick, frothy, off-white head that shows good retention as it slowly recedes. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly sweet and slightly acidic with quite a bit of red apple and over ripe pear. Some light stone fruit and citrus notes. Moderate floral notes with a bit of a grain character. Moderate bitterness. Light plastic phenolic note with more of a peppery and herbal character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but Im not super keen on the ester and phenolic character. Tastes almost oxidized in a way.
