Just like those classic video games we all grew up with, 8-Bit Pale Ale is spectacularly simple at first glance yet remarkably fun and complex when you get into it. Our Hop Rocket infuses the character of Australian grown Galaxy Hops into an American Pale Ale, giving a unique tropical, almost melon aroma in a classic American style.

The appearance of this brew combines a hazy orangeish golden color with a large white head and a fine-grained sediment floating throughout. The aroma is hoppy with a predominance of floral and citrus ones, and the taste is quite bitter, slightly sour, and a touch sweet; furthermore, the palate combines a sticky texture, long bitter finish, medium body, and a soft carbonation.

1 pint tallboy served into a Dogfish shaped pint glass. A - 3 billowy fingers of white foam ontop of a cloudy golden brown body. The head forms a solid cap S - Galaxy all the way, dry floral, dried tropical fruit, pineapple, papaya, grapefruit and lemon, cracker pale malt, green grass. T - Peppery bitterness, dried pineapple fruit, grapefruit, very floral, citrus pulp, green grass, slightly sweet cracker malt. Finishes fruity and bitter. Grapefruit carries long into the aftertaste. M - Moderate carbonation, light side of full bodied, semi-smooth feel. Nice APA in a cool looking can. Love the galaxy hops and they really let them shine. The yeast is recognizable from the rest of the line up. Very good overall. The citrus really comes out when warm. Serving type: can 05-10-2012

16 oz can at The Courtyard (Decorah, IA). Pours a rich deep amber darker pour, good haziness in the middle, frothy whitish head atop laces well as a thicker full film, laces ok. Aromas are mellow to decent bitter hops, lemons and some florals, grass and gentle earth. Touches of bready malts, mellow deadened sweetness. Ok. The hops start to jump a bit more as it warms. Initial is lighter end of the fold, some bready malts meet some florals, gentle grapefruit, faint tropical elements. Mellow on that end, decent to medium bitterness in this beer up front. A touch tropical, faint grapefruit. Some dough, florals, and touches of melon in the middle. Backend is a touch bready, almost toasty. Firm dryness, bitter earthy hops. Touches of florals, mellow tropical fruit. A solid pale that gets a touch sweet at times. A-Ok.

I have to admit, my primary reason for wanting to try this was the snazzy can. That being said, this was a pretty tasty brew - crisp, snappy hop profile with a subtle, toasty malt. Simple, but tasty. Thanks to theisti for the trade!
