Cask at iTap-Soulard served in a pint glass. Pours a hazy, opaque dark chocolate brown with a small, sticky beige head that proves to be a long-lasting, soft, uneven cap all the way down. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, baker’s chocolate, cocoa beans, nuts, and toast. No cherries in the smell. Flavor of chocolate-covered cherries with coffee. That’s about it. Really nice and straightforward. Medium-bodied, with a roasty, chocolaty, smooth mouthfeel and low carbonation. I’d like to try more experimental kind of stuff from Tallgrass now. Firkin Fest 2011. Black beer. The aroma has chocolate and heavily roasted malt with some fruit. Flavor has sweet fruit with sugar, and heavily roasted grain. Draft. Served at Firkin Fest 2011. Pours a dark brwon amber mahagony color with a tan head of tiny bubbles. Roasted coffee notes in the nose more than anything with a chocolate and dark fruit kicker towards the end. The flavors are nice and are a nice blend of dark roast, dark chocolate, dark fruit, and a touch of vanilla. Ends with a lingering bitterness. Medium mouthfeel. I like this but was surprised the roast coffee notes were so dominate, I would have liked a little more emphasis on the fruit side.
