We often hear from fans who swore they’d never enjoy a stout — until they tried Buffalo Sweat. Some have described its rich taste, creamy mouthfeel and sweet, lingering finish as liquid chocolate chip cookies made with espresso. If you only try one dark beer in your life, Buffalo Sweat will change your entire perception of how a stout should taste.

Drinking from can. Mildly sweet, creamy full bodied with soft carbonation. Rich coffers and vanilla with oatmeal and chocolate in the back ground...roasted. mildesy pine hop flavor. A little on the sweet side but an excellent oatmeal stout.

Can at work, thanks to UncleMike. Pours clear black, pale tan head, spotty lacing. Nose is sweet (sweat?) oats, lots of icing sugar, barley sugar, and powdered milk. Flavours of sweet milk chocolate, malted milk balls, Coffee Crisp, and light roast. Short sweet finish.

This is a beer with a nice roasty nose and an absolutely fantastic rich, chocolate and coffee flavor but it’s just a bit too sweet which makes it a bit flabby on the palate. It’s also a rather plain brown color with a scant and foamy head. This is one of those near misses that’s sort of hard to rate. It has definitel compelling qualities but also some flaws. In the end, I’d say it’s about above average.

Bottle from Liquid Planet, Missoula. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a dry treacle and chocolate flavor with a carbonated finish.

Pours black with a 1 finger, super creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is full of mellow roast, coffee, roast nuts, warm chocolate, and toast, as well as some lactose, earth, light smoke, and a hint of spicy hops. Flavor huge mellow roast, roasted nuts, lots more lactose than the aroma, chocolate, a hint of cold coffee, just a hint of ashy char, spicy and citrus hops. Palate is light to medium body, creamy throughout and has a light, borderline sharp carbonation. Pretty fantastic stuff, I am a bit of a sucker for a good Sweet Stout, though. I might have enjoyed it more if it were just a bit less hoppy, not that it is all that hoppy, but I could taste some citrus in there, which is not too favorable for me in a Sweet Stout.

Great aroma and flavor. The nose is coffee with hints of chocolate. Black with a light tan froth. Sweetish coffee and chocolate character with a roast bitterness rather than a hop bitterness. The body is a bit thin and watery for what I would expect of this style; however, it is also very smooth with a sweetish finish.

Can. Pours dark brown to black with ruby red hew. Nose is raisins, molasses and tons f brown malt. First sip is figs, dried fruit, slight toasted marshmellow, thin candy sigar finish

20 oz on tap. Black color, good adhesion. Decent head fades to slight collar. Smells a bit more like coffee than oatmeal. Disappointing overall. Taste is light and not full-bodied, contrasts with the appearance & aroma. It’s like they sort of gave up on it and threw hops at it. Nowhere near as good as Tallgrass’ other beers (Oasis in particular). Pass.
