COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 2013, two nine-gallon casks were filled with Buffalo Sweat and a handful of vanilla beans, and were stored in Tallgrass founder Jeff Gills office. A few weeks later, Jeff entered his office to find one of casks had exploded, spraying beer all over his office and leaving a hole in the ceiling above his desk shaped exactly like the cork bung used to seal the cask. Thankfully, the other cask did not explode. That night at an event in Wichita, Kansas, the beer was so well-received, it immediately got the call to become the brewerys winter seasonal.

16 ounce can thanks to Secret Santa crajun! Dark brown, large fizzy dark brown head that fades to nothing fairly quickly. Aroma of vanilla, roasted malts, lactose. The taste is sweet lactose, vanilla bean, mild roasty finish. Medium bodied.

AROMA Brown sugar, coffee, sweetened condensed milk, whipping cream, a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. No alcohol smell to speak of, in contrast to several other heavyweight stouts Ive sampled recently. APPEARANCE Big voluptuous caramel colored head frothing up like it wants to overflow the beer glass. Dark oily liquid with perfectly balanced carbonation, keeping it light on the palate without being fizzy. TASTE Sweet, roasty without the intense coffee notes of many of its peers. Nice balance of malt, sweet, acid, bitterness and creamyness with a well integrated lingering hint of vanilla. Not so much like vanilla ice cream as much as a nilla wafer. PALATE Light, creamy, smooth, viscous and mouthcoating. Well calculated carbonation lightens up the weight of the beer admirably. Very refreshing as dark stout beers go. OVERALL Even better than expected. A highly drinkable, exceptionally balanced sweet stout. The vanilla expression is subtle but shifts the flavor profile just slightly in a way that keeps the beer lighter and more refreshing. Seeking this one out again next year.

Black with a creamy tan head that subsides quickly. Aroma of coffee, cocoa powder and vanilla. The flavor is lightly sweet, following the aroma with some roast malt bitterness giving balance to the sweetness.

Pint on tap. Opaque ebony with a lasting thin covering of foam. Nose is dusty grain, vanilla and coffee. Tastes of semi-sweet chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla and a touch of green herb. Near-medium body has a medium, smooth carbonation. Highly drinkable with a light hand on the vanilla bean that complements, rather than overwhelms, the nice beer underneath.

Can shared in LDN, thanks to Manny G. Pours clear brown with a mild, tan cream topping. Big sugary milk chocolate aroma with touches of coffee grounds and burnt grains. Medium sweet flavor with some cheap-tasting chocolate character, earth, burnt wheat. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with light nutty elements, more milk chocolate, soft earthy bitterness, burnt bread. Tasty if a bit simplistic.
