In 2013, two nine-gallon casks were filled with Buffalo Sweat and a handful of vanilla beans, and were stored in Tallgrass founder Jeff Gills office. A few weeks later, Jeff entered his office to find one of casks had exploded, spraying beer all over his office and leaving a hole in the ceiling above his desk shaped exactly like the cork bung used to seal the cask. Thankfully, the other cask did not explode. That night at an event in Wichita, Kansas, the beer was so well-received, it immediately got the call to become the brewerys winter seasonal.

Pours a thin black with big brown head. Taste and smell is sweet with vanilla. Body melds nicely with the Bean. A tad thin, but otherwise delightful.

1 pt can, poured into a snifter at approximately 50 degrees F. Appearance: Pours a deep, dark, bordering on black brown, which pools into the glass as black liquid shot through with carbonation. It forms a thick, fizzy head of tan foam, which rapidly dies away completely, leaving no trace. The surface of the beer bubbles continually in much the same way as a soft drink. Smell: Chocolate and vanilla well out of the glass, wreathed around a backdrop equal measures roasty and sweet with lactose. Theres just enough of a coffee hint to make one think of some ice cream parlors go at a cappuccino flavor. Taste: The flavor opens with a twin rush of cocoa and vanilla, buoyed by a remarkable sweetness. Some subtle notes of light coffee emerge through the middle, bringing just a hint of bitterness, and dark fruits swell out of the background towards the finish - raisin, plum, and black cherry. The aftertaste has a mixture of lactose sweetness and something almost ashen, with quickly fading echoes of chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel: For a stout, this is rather thin, almost tempting me to use the term "watery", though it never quite gets to that point. Theres definitely an overabundance of carbonation, with attendant fizziness and sharpness. Overall: Thus far, Ive been in areas where this beer sees distribution twice, and I brought some home both times. Its a rather refreshing adjunct milk stout, almost what one could term a "session dessert beer" as far as drinkability is concerned. Im a fan.

Black pour with a three finger, chunky mocha head that has great retention. Aroma is dark caramel, vanilla, roast, woody smoke, lactose, toasted nuts, milk chocolate, a hint of earth and floral, spicy hops. Flavor is sweet caramel, chocolate syrup, roast, vanilla, faint char, oaky smoke, a little light roast coffee, cooked apple and light fruity and spicy hops. Light to medium body, very creamy entry, light, blanketing and somewhat sharp carbonation, and increasing char dryness to the finish. Really tasty stuff, nice mix of smoke, char, sweet vanilla and chocolate. It could use a bit more heft to the body, both for feel and to tone that carbonation down a bit.

Fairly dark color with half finger of creamy light khaki head. Smells of chocolate milk, vanilla, lactose, slight earthy coffee. Taste is just like the smell, good amount of vanilla with the chocolate milk, somewhat creamy, lot of lactic. Sweet but light, enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very thick with a nice 2 finger head. Vanilla smell comes through immediately with a hint of alcohol burn. Goes down very smooth and the vanilla dominates the taste. At 5% this is a rare session stout that I will definitely go back to.
