COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 2013, two nine-gallon casks were filled with Buffalo Sweat and a handful of vanilla beans, and were stored in Tallgrass founder Jeff Gills office. A few weeks later, Jeff entered his office to find one of casks had exploded, spraying beer all over his office and leaving a hole in the ceiling above his desk shaped exactly like the cork bung used to seal the cask. Thankfully, the other cask did not explode. That night at an event in Wichita, Kansas, the beer was so well-received, it immediately got the call to become the brewerys winter seasonal.

16 oz can into a pub glass. Big head on this one, dark brown pour, but a little light shows in the bottom of the glass. I could smell the vanilla before I even picked it up. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malt, coffee, and some tobacco. Head isnt really foamy, more fizzy, and dissipates fairly quickly. Body is pretty light, less carbonated than I would have guessed from the head, really smooth, little sweetness. Muted coffee and dark chocolate. Vanilla isnt overpowering at all, really, and the coffee/vanilla thing is fairly balanced. Maybe I got a bad can, but my first impression was that it tasted kinda flat and very light bodied. I was excited to try this, but Im kinda disappointed. That being said, its only 5% abv, and its pretty drinkable so it might be a fun session beer.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pint can - pours a midnight brown with a thin tan head. Sweet chocolatey aroma along with vanilla cream and lactose. Sweet, roasty, creamy, thin and dessert like. This would be good with real campfire smores.

From the can the pour is dark but light barely permeates the glass, the only light is towards the bottom and is a rich chocolate brown. The head quickly dissipates to nothing but was light brown in color. The aroma chocolate and roasted coffee. The taste is initially sweet rich and smooth, there is a hint of cinnamon in the background and a richness from the vanilla. The finish is almost soda like because of the cinnamon, does not finish like a stout or traditional beer, nor does it leave any overriding flavor notes. The mouthfeel is medium. Overall if I had this without knowing it is a stout, I would not guess it is a stout, it does not finish like one.

Can from Greg (gregwilsonstl) -- cheers! This is a very smooth, creamy stout that starts off moderately sweet and quite vanilla-y. As I got towards the end of my glass I was personally pretty overwhelmed by the sweetness, but it was still pretty good -- at least the vanilla tasted authentic, instead of the fake, cream soda stuff that some brewers use!

A really nice dessert beer. There probably isnt a better base beer to start with than Buffalo Sweat for this kind of vanilla beer because it doesnt overwhelm the chocolate and the vanilla somehow accentuates the slickness of the mouthfeel.

Pint can (thanks Greg Wilson) on 26th May 2016. Poured (twice) into a lovely Kasteel stemmed glass while sat in the Californian sun. Black bodied with a deep and full head of tan coloured foam on each pour, sadly the head refused to hang around each time and the beer looked like flat cola. Luckily the aroma and taste made up for the looks, Vanilla first, Coffee second and Chocolate third in both the aroma and flavor stakes. Semi-sweet and smooth, not as rich body wise as I thought it might be, but a very pleasant beer none the less.

On tap, Casual Pint Northshore. Pours black, with a ring of foam. The first thing I smell is actually coffee, with vanilla in the background. Some ashy, burnt toast notes, too. Taste is coffee and chocolate, then vanilla. The vanilla is understated, but definitely there. I like it.
