Bottle at RBJG2. Hazy dark brown color, tan head. Aroma of softly sour dark fruit. Taste is sour plums, red wine, roasted cocoa. Tasty. Is it a saison? Or a flemish sour? Theis (15151) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 29, 2013
Bottle at RBJG#2 - Grand Tasting Tim’s Place. Clear dark brown - mouldy, oxidation, minerals, sweetness, rise, sake minerals, light peppery, spicy, light roasted notes, light messy. KyotoLefty (10693) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 26, 2011
From the 750 ml bottle, at Tadgs. Great aroma, slightly funky, with yogurt, berries, citrus, chocolate. The flavor is dry, with choolate, funk, light sourness, really gentle and well-balanced. Almost no sweetness, light bitterness, and sour is much less than in usual Belgian sours, but the dryness is very nice. Light a dry Flemmish Red.

dark brown color, light brown head. Sour lactic nose with decent woody character. Excellent roasted character, chocolate milk - i had more notes, but they some how got cut off on iPhone. Anyways, I liked this beer, but not as enthralled as others. Still decent. KansaiBeerLvrs (5375) - Kyoto, JAPAN - APR 29, 2014
Bottle shared by Brian, batch 6 from 2010. This beer is a cola brown pour with no real head. Musty barrel-aged character. Light zesty mouthfeel with a very effervescent body. The taste is nutty, wine-like & fairly malt forward with a good degree of sourness.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2016 RBJG2. Aroma is cheesy and fruity, but combined in a good way. Taste is slightly cheesy again. I always like these Yamabushi saisons. Rerate 2016. The 2011 version. Very nice. Vinous, ash, dark fruit. Good stuff, thick, lovely, treacle, something very interesting and indistinct. So easy drinking.

Bottle at Tim’s RPJG#2. Smells of cork. Pours a clear dark brown with a small beige head. Sweet and dry with a mellow tartness. Lots of woody aromas. Hints of funghi and of red wine. Medium bodied. Lively carbonation. maekchu (4054) - Hirakata, JAPAN - OCT 7, 2012
Bomber. 2010 vintage. Oxidized fruitiness, raisins, bitter plums. Dark, near black, 1-2 cm. dark tan head. Flavors also oxidized: cherries, plums; mid palate has some Bretty notes with more dark fruit; final is dryish. Thin-medium body. Okay, but was better before. The oxidation gets in the way. willisread (3651) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 3, 2016
Bottle shared. Thanks Neil for the generous share! 2011 B-11.12. Deep brown to black with a finger and a half of head that dissipates quickly. Huge oaky notes with that sherry thing going on alongside cacao and some nice light apricot and prune notes. Creamy and sherry-like on the palate with more fruit and oak. Just never seems to end. A huge improvement on the original. Fantastically complex! jonno (2917) - JAPAN - NOV 19, 2011
Wow another homer from the best brewery in Japan. This is a saison noir turned lambic. Nose is funky sour geen apples and horse blanket. Really quite funky and fruity with chocolate and apple notes. Really dry finish. The only thing (slightly) holding this back is the over attenuation that puts this in sparkling wine territory at times. Otherwise top notch, original and showing their sake heritage to full effect. 2100 yen for 750ml bottle.
