Dark black pour with a persistent khaki head. Nose has a lot of sweetness and a lot of roast with some dark coca and acidic coffee. However, it really comes together in a lovely aroma. Flavor is big yet smooth with roast and a touch of smoke, some bitter dark cocoa, and a semi-bitter coffee ish tone. Roasty and full, and quite dark without being syrupy. sebletitje (10293) - Enghien, BELGIUM - AUG 30, 2009

Growler thanks to IBrew2or3 at the tasting. Pours a almost pure black color with a medium brown head. The aroma is chocolates and light dark fruit. The flavor is nice; char, chocolates, some heat, roasted malts, nutty at times. A smooth drinking Impy for sure. It will appeal to those not looking for boozy over the top sweetness. drowland (9080) - Georgia, USA - MAR 13, 2012
3/13/12. On tap at the brewery as Iron Rat, but listed as 10%, so I guess it’s this? Almost all black pour, ruby edges, with a small brown head that fades fast. Huge roast and coffee aroma with bits of tartness and caramel. Big roasty and chocolate kick but with loads of butterscotch... almost slick feeling. It’s not horrible, but nothing to phone home about. Ibrew2or3 (8828) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 11, 2006
Poured black with lasting frothy tan head. The aroma was really light. I couldn’t smell hardly anything at all. The flavor however is very nice. There is a burnt and chocolate maltiness that create a both roasted and sweet flavor. About midway the taste becomes just a bit sweeter like molasses. There is just a little sense of alcohol that actually gives the beer added interest in the flavor. It seems the molasses flavor and light alcohol note mix to create an almost oatmeal flavor. This beer works for me.

On tap at the brewpub in Ybor City. Coal black viscous pour with a thick, creamy off-white head that leaves several rings of thick lacing. Aroma has some faint wisps of vanilla if a bit subdued. Flavor is full bodied with some hints of vanilla, brandy and a back end of marshmallows. Very tasty. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Very enjoyable. Taste: Roasted malts, woody and chocolate
OK, easy to drink.
On tap at the brewpub 1/1/07: Pours a nearly opaque black with dark brown edges and a dense, tan nitro head. Aroma of sweet caramel and dark chocolate. Body starts sweet, full and caramely with good mocha balance and a mild bitterness before a sticky, lingering dark chocolate finish. A nice, smooth imperial stout with good flavor.
