On tap at the brewpub. Nearly opaque dark brown pour...big thick tan head. Lotsa roasty malt, coffeish, some chocolate in the aroma. Flavor was equally roasty, medium bodied....creamy mouthfeel. Ultra dark brown, thick tanned head. Nose on this one was all about chocolate, dark roasted coffee and cream, toasted brown sugar, with a slight vanilla bean tone hidden below. Flavor was similar, well balanced, yet nicely hopped on the backside to round it out. Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, velvety, smooth roasted finish. Really nice session brew....

Draft... Sparkling clear, very dark, crimson brew with a large khaki head. Cirrus lacing. The aroma is of cocoa, vanilla, caramel and coffee. A little thin, but well-bittered. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Short, crisp, clean finish. Grassy at the wee end.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2009 Had to re-rate this. I don’t know if they are tweaking the recipes or what, but this beer is getting better.Mmuch more roasty than it used to be and more full bodied. Dark brown/mahogany body with a tan/khaki head. Smells delicious, nuts, sweet and chocolaty. Taste is big time dark roasted malt, sweet brown sugar, dark roasted coffee and of course, chocolate.
