On tap at the brewpub. Nearly opaque dark brown pour...big thick tan head. Lotsa roasty malt, coffeish, some chocolate in the aroma. Flavor was equally roasty, medium bodied....creamy mouthfeel. Light bitterness in the finish. Not my favorite ale there, but a good one.

crizay (1050) - Brook Park, Ohio, USA - MAY 24, 2005
You can tell this is the flagship beer it stood out from the rest having the most flavor, coffee, chocolate, and man this was good.

hopdog (12510) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 16, 2005
On tap at the brew pub. Poured a very dark brown with reddish tints at the edges and an off white head. Aromas and tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, and a little nutty.

scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 7, 2005
Ultra dark brown, thick tanned head. Nose on this one was all about chocolate, dark roasted coffee and cream, toasted brown sugar, with a slight vanilla bean tone hidden below. Flavor was similar, well balanced, yet nicely hopped on the backside to round it out. Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, velvety, smooth roasted finish. Really nice session brew....

hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 3, 2005
Draft... Sparkling clear, very dark, crimson brew with a large khaki head. Cirrus lacing. The aroma is of cocoa, vanilla, caramel and coffee. A little thin, but well-bittered. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Short, crisp, clean finish. Grassy at the wee end.

whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 3, 2004
GABF 2004. Deep brown body and thick beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and nuts. Chocolate and coffee dominate the flavor as well. Medium to full bodied. This is a standard robust porter.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2009 Had to re-rate this. I don’t know if they are tweaking the recipes or what, but this beer is getting better.Mmuch more roasty than it used to be and more full bodied. Had one Sept 21st 2005 that was kinda wimpy, but it’s the first time it wasn’t stellar.

Dark brown/mahogany body with a tan/khaki head. Smells delicious, nuts, sweet and chocolaty. Taste is big time dark roasted malt, sweet brown sugar, dark roasted coffee and of course, chocolate. Aftertaste is a nice roasted hop finish. Solid porter. Sampled on draught at Tampa Bay Brewing Co in Ybor City, FL

Pours a dark brown color with some reddish hues when held to a bright light. Aroma and flavor is toasted malt, caramel, coffee and chocolate that finishes with a hoppy crispness. Body is rich and medium.

Cask. Chocolate aroma. Flavour is chocolate w/ a little roast. The cask version is ridiculously smooth.
