3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Not a bad dark lager. I was expecting more with the word Imperial on the label. A light roasted malty character in both the aroma and flavor. A darkish pour and thin mouthfeel. Better than a plain lager. But not nearly as great as a porter or stout in my book. Not really sensing the reported 9% alcohol.
bottle @ Belmont Party Supply / Dayton OH --- Nearly opaque brown / black color, tan head that stays as a cover, lace cobwebs. Taste is dark semi-sweet malt, perhaps roasted, that slides effortlessly through light carbonation to a minimum of hops in a long roasted malt finish. A solid brew, (although my bottle lists 8.0% abv, and 35 IBU’s) that is quite easy to down. superspak (6015) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - JUN 14, 2016
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color, with a 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with light coffee, raisin, plum, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, biscuit, and nuttiness; with light coffee, raisin, plum, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal hop and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast/bitterness as well. Nicely clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial schwarzbier style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Very rich and well rounded in malt complexity. A very enjoyable offering. katrinaez (2247) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 4, 2016
On tap at beerfest. Great name, very good beer. Roasted malts and some smokiness. Jet black. Very smooth taste for the ABV. Will look for again. b33r (881) - Ohio, USA - MAR 25, 2016
Dark black color with thin light brown head and no lacing. Aroma and flavor have rich toasted malts and light smokiness. Great strong flavor, with little alcohol presence. Very good overall michcam8 (582) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 23, 2016
Jet black, minimal lacing. Coffee, roasted malts, chocolate on the nose. Taste is similar, more of the chocolate side, sweet, slight bitter finish. Not bad.

Pours near black with red hue, tan head, and no lacing. Aroma combines typical lager with a pure malt scent. Taste is malts, toffee, slight caramel, and dark berries. Also a touch of alcohol burn. DialSquare (5130) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 17, 2014
12oz bottle from Giant Eagle, UA. Blackish-brown pour with ring tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, wood, citrus. Tastes of chocolate, nutty, herbal, sweet malt, caramel, sugary. Not bad, not my thing. Too sweet. Patrickctenchi (6731) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - JUN 27, 2014
