12 ounce bottle from Winerak Market in Zanesville, OH, served slightly below cellar temp in a Maudite glass. Looks rather like motor oil as it pours - that near-opaque dark rusty orange - but in the glass it’s closer to translucent, cloudy dark amber, with just a smidgeon of head that dissipates to a thin lasting ring immediately...aroma is sugary and piney, somewhat musty and reminiscent of spoiling oranges; I don’t feel I have the adequate words here, this is typical of certain barley wines I’ve mostly not enjoyed, it betokens a sticky, murky mess, and I’m hoping that in this case the aroma is misleading...thankfully, it’s a bit better in the mouth, fairly hoppy, juicy and bitter throughout, woody and toasty, and not particularly sticky or overly sweet though there is a burnt caramel character around midpalate...finishes a bit drier though still perhaps more sweet than necessary. This is drinkable enough ultimately, but either it’s already starting to go off (after just 4 months?) or it’s just one of this brewery’s weaker efforts to my taste. ??? 12 ounce bottle from the brewery, shared at the Aug. 2016 Monticello Dairy Bottle Share, 8/1/16. Clear copper, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of brown sugar, toffee, citrus, mild booze. The taste is toffee, cherries, booze, caramel, vanilla. Medium bodied, lingering booze. b33r (875) - Ohio, USA - DEC 24, 2015
Dark cloudy brown color with just an off-white ring of a head and no lacing. Aroma has rich caramel malts, chocolate, and raisins. Flavor has amazing mixture of bitter hoppiness and caramel malts. Smooth, creamy, thick, complex, and delicious. GnarlyGnome (770) - Fairfield, Ohio, USA - MAY 18, 2015
Draft: Lots of dark fruit and roasted caramel flavors. Finishes with a slight alcohol burn that almost balances it all out. Pretty good stuff... not my favorite barleywine that I’ve had, however. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - OCT 26, 2014
Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice crystal clear copper body that supports a full tall tan head of foam. The modest aroma has a malty sticky sort of aroma to it and mixed with prunes and some brown sugar. This is a light aroma but it seems to be in line with the overall experience. The taste starts sweet thick and kind of punchy with malts and kind of bright notes of raisins and prunes covered in brown sugar. It also gets a soft sweet layer of molasses joining in into the finish. This is a pretty nice English style barleywine. I would think a year or so would smooth this out into something wonderful.

Vintage 2010 at brewery for ogrefest. Pour is medium copper with thin creme colored head. Sweet fruit and caramel aromas abound. Dried fruit like figs and dates, sweet but balanced, some hint of hops left but mostly a malt bomb. Excellent example of an aged European barley wine. Poured on kraft at the source. Pours a darker amber with a beige head of foam. The aroma is sweet and fruity with some tropical fruit influences. Mild bitterness throughout. Kind of reminds me of maraschino cherries. Dogbrick (13006) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 30, 2013
Sample at Lucky’s in Dayton. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet malt, hops and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, earthy hops and caramel. The finish is malty up front with a resiny hops aftertaste. Decent overall. Daytonbeer (730) - Ohio, USA - AUG 18, 2013
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2015 Pours dark orange with no head. Aroma of grape, raisins, and booze. Taste is the same with carmel and wood mixes in. Nice brew. crossovert (12874) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 28, 2013
BK with a solid rigidly english style barleywine with loads of bread and caramel.
