Smells sweet and slightly skunked, no head, very little carbonation. A pale golden color. Taste is fairly common american standard, better than others in the style.

A decent beer, I'm surprised considering its an American Standard, I was expecting a more budwiezerish taste. It reminds me of the Pacifico Clara. Decent beer.

There is nothing really standoutish about this beer - and that's what makes it good. Many beers can pummel you with their strength [Starkheit] or kill your will to drink more. Heavier beers are I imagine not so very enjoyable in such arid and dry climates as Mexico or Arizona, etc. Thus we see how a beer like Tecate or its close competitor Pacifico Clara has its place in the world - especially in certain parts of the world. I had this beer with Mexican food in Hawaii and found it watery and thin, without too much taste or a palate, and yet, I liked it. I really did. Definitely better than Sol (bleh on that one).

Not a bad Mexican beer at all. Refreshing on a hot day. Poured a clear golden color, aroma was subtle. Tastes like a lighter lager ... nothing special, but good nonetheless.

I must admit that I buy this on occasion because it comes in a pop-top quart bottle that I like to use for my homebrew (bigger bottles = less time spent bottling)... Anyway... It's yellow--very yellow. Served cold as it should be there's very little in the way of taste or aroma--just some grassy overtones and a slight metallic twinge. At higher temps that grainy cheap-ass bear flavor comes out with a force but it's still has a cleaner palate than most. Better than Corona, which ain't sayin' much.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2004 Not a terrible Mexican beer...I definitely enjoyed it more than a Corona and Dos Equis. I had a chance to sample a bottle of this on a trip to Sonoma, CA when it was in the mid 80's outside. This lager was exactly what I needed as far as being refreshing and tasty. Not too heavy, but not too light and watery either. It does lack the taste, aroma, and head found in other good beers, but it did have a nice overall balance.

Had the fridge stocked with this in Mexico. There's something about poor Latin American countries with hot climates that just makes beers like this good. But as soon as you pass the Rio Grande the honeymoon is over. I do love the neat cans. When you're drunk the can is fun to touch with those funny ridges.
