UPDATED: DEC 10, 2003 One of the better american standards i think. Doesnt get warm quick and quenches the thirst perfectly. Cheap but nothing to go too wild over.

Fairly cheap swill. Nothing too special going on here. Chemical taste and no head make for a flat watery beer without anything really going for it.

There was cinnamon here, I swear. My wife verified it as well. They must have dusted the top of the bottle with a touch of cinnamon sugar is all I can figure. It faded. There actually were some faint floral hops to go along with the taste of adjuncts.

There is something deep in my memory about this. I used to collect beer cans as a kid and I'm sure I had one of these in the 1970s. The label must not have changed one bit. It pours rather richly yellow with a chemical white foam. The aroma is dusty and sweet, anticipating the first sweet corn flavors to pass my lips. It finishes with a dried apple flavor and an absence of offensiveness. Decent, but not overdone carbonation. Not a bad beer, especially for a Mexican-brewed American Standard.

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. It was actually fairly drinkable and didn't become undrinkable after it warmed a little. There's actually a surprising bit of malt flavor and while that doesn't mean it was malty, it just means that it was maltier than more beers in the style. I even started to pick up a little hop bitterness at the end. I had this from the bottle.

Tecate, a great Domestic beer and one of my favorites. The perfect beer for a nice hot day when you just want to relax.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2003 The bartender at Carlos O'Kelley's gladly handed me a bottle and a short tulip type glass with a little slice of lime on the rim. I went back to my table and ate more chips and salsa. Seeing as how I was getting thirsty I just poured as I usually do and noticed a bubbly dark-corn yellow type of liquid that came with a short white head that lasted for no time at all. I squeezed some lime into it and then took my first salsa quenching drink. Mmm, hit the spot. Nothing like a carbonated lime-water. No fuss about it, I enjoyed it. It didn't have that Corona skunk and it actually had more hop and malt than that brand. I mean damn, at least something was detectable. If it wasn't for the theme restaurant and ultimate thirst for anything to quench my thirst I probably would have turned the other cheek, but I surprisingly washed all my enchiladas down with it and had a good time. Thanks Mexican beer! (I never thought I'd say that) Oh, it cost $3.25 for that bottle... What?! It should have been a buck. I would have drank a pepsi/coke if I knew about this... Aye-yi-yi!
