Bottle at Craigs big Edinburgh tasting, this bottle courtesy of ’Craig’, thanks mate. Shared in company of Craig, Stella, Jan, Charlotte, Fritz and Loz 30.10.10 Hazy amber pour with a slight orangeyness also in looks and a white bubbly head. Bit boozy, very sweet, some bitterness, bit sticky. I found this fine but nothing special, yes there were hops and a distinct maltiness but it never stood out from the crowd as I hoped it would. Bottle [750ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a deep orange-amber with a massive lasting foamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, hops, nuts, dark fruit, some pepper and alcohol. Sweet flavour of malt, hops, plenty of alcohol, dark fruit and a long boozy bitter finish. Some sour notes in there too. Thick bodied. Not great, just good.

750 ml from Country Club. I ahd been looking since early summer for this one and it pops up at the nearest liquor store. Nose of brown sugar, nuttiness, and some prunes. Hazy copper with a huge yellow-beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet with a moderate amount of contrasting bitterness, raisins, and some alcohol warmth. Different take on a barleywine but pretty tasty. August 19, 2010 - my 750ml corked & caged bottle shared with blankboy and garthicus. Very bright clear amber with a huge lasting fluffy/foamy off-white head. Somewhat lemony aroma, background caramel malt and herbal bitterness, definitely alcohol there, but not like 10% (7-). Tastes of caramel malt, but dry herbal bitterness, but the alcohol and hugely acidic lemon character don’t allow this to balance out at all, it kept attacking my palate with sweet, then sour, then bitter, always boozy - a bit off-putting. Slick and stick mouthfeel, borderline chewy, what malt there is fades fast, leaving a very odd harsh and acidic bitter/dry coating on the tongue - very odd barleywine, didn’t really care for it much. garthicus (2963) - Dublin, IRELAND - AUG 19, 2010
Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Ruby red with a decent off white head. Aroma: spicy, a little nutty, cherry and alcohol definitely present. Flavour: super alcoholic, bitter cherry, lots of malt, almost brought on indigestion immediately, lots and lots of carbonation, burning alcohol finish. 750ml bottle. Rating #37. Poured really thick out of the bottle, lots of carbonation leading to a huge and long lasting light dusty-white head with real nice lacing, the color was light brown with a little orange. Sweet belgianesque aroma, yeasty a bit peppery as well, very unusual for a barleywine. Velvety texture, moderate bitterness and a little rich maltiness as well and a little bit of an alcohol burn down the back of the throat, interesting and pretty good. 750 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a murky copper color with a medium off-white head that has good retention. The aroma is medium in strength with roasted barley, grapes, apricots and almonds. The flavor is a mixed bag with sour, sweet and biter notes; featuring candied apricots, biter almonds and funky yeast.. The palate is full and malty with lively carbonation. The finish is long and semisweet with a touch of alcohol. Overall: A very tasty barleywine, not bad, not bad at all.
