Restrained aroma in an inky black pour. A tasty beer but people need to get a grip. A double BLACK IPA has to be an oxymoron - surely? Californians may be able to get away with it - but the Scots? Surely not...

Really good version of the style. Slight beige head and on top of a very dark body. I get porter first, with caramel roasted malt and a dusting of chocolate. Then the fruit comes through and its lovely, with blackberry, orange, maybe grapefruit. Body is medium to full and creamy.

13/20 tastes like an IPA to me, not getting much of the soft fruits or chocolate. Fresh tasting IPA, easy to drink ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. It pours jet black with a creamy beige head. Spice, licorice, pine, fresh fruit and light roast in the aroma. The flavor is pine, tropical fruit, licorice, spice and roasted malt. Creamy texture. Fruity hoppy finish. Great stuff!

Aroma:
Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, orange, pine, chocolate, roasted malts, hops and citrus.

Appearance:
Opaque black beer with slight yeast and with a slight/medium brown head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, orange, pine and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts, hops and citrus.

Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Gets a lot of its sweet flavours from the dry hopping and has a little bit of chocolate. The finish is mostly roasted malts with a tiny bit of bitter hops. Amazing Black IPA overall.

33cl bottle @home. The beer poured pitch black with a thick light brown head. Chocolate, roasted malt, ash, hops, coffee notes in aroma. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel, balanced and still quite aggressively hopped. Chocolate in flavor, mild ash, roast and some licorice along with citrus fruity hoppyness. Long hoppy finish, nice balance. One of the best black IPAs I have had. Solid!

Fruity; orange and grapefruit citrus. Hoppy; piney resinous hops. Good malt/fruit/hop balance. Bitter-sweet roast chocolate and coffee malty and citrus fruity piney hoppy throughout. Very Drinkable. Enjoyed this. Lovely well balanced BIPA! (2016-01-27)
