Definitely an easy drinker. Bland when too cold but very worthwhile above 8c. Aroma some light grassy hop character with dark toffee. Flavour some cocoa and toasty notes.

Pours totally black with a brown head. Aroma is malt, fruit, roastiness and hints of pine. Taste is medium sweet leading to a dry roasty and fruity finish. Very impressed with this one! madmitch76 (25009) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 23, 2013

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton and Josh, Clear dark brown beer, small pale cream coloured head. Light pine and skunk hop nose. Smooth soft palate, airy. Mellow dark malts, semi dry. Touch of malt cream and even a trace of coffee. Hops follow the nose, mild skunk and pine. Semi dry finish. A light Black IPA.
Bottle, thanks to Leighton/Josh. It pours deepest brown with a thick beige head. The nose is pine, light sweetness, cola, treacle and cola bottle sweets. The taste is roasted malt, earth, toast, good level of bitterness, toast, dull coffee, pine and alcohol with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body, moderate+ carbonation and soft mouth-feel. A decent BIPA by all accounts. jackl (8217) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 18, 2013
Bottle @ Bruce’s. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The nose is roasted coffee, toffee, sweet caramelized brown sugar. Some compost pile, leaves. The taste is rich ashy roast malt. Some toffee. Bitter roasted chocolate. Woody hoppy finish. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, a solid BIPA. Good.

Bottle at Bruce’s during the first stop of Jack’s Farewell Tour in London. This one I got in a trade from Josh. Pours dark brown with a tight, creamy beige head. Nose has toasty pine, burnt toast, hints of grapefruit, some roast. Medium sweet flavor, more burnt toast, baking cocoa, moderate bitter earth, dry chocolate, burnt pine. Medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Finishes with sweet burnt toast, pine, dry dirt, light grapefruit, some bitter burnt wood. Nice beer. Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours black with a short tan head. Big piney hop aroma, smells like a killer IPA. Taste is awesome, dark malts blended with a nice hop profile make for a complex and challenging style. Dark malts, chocolate, pine and a touch of light citrus. Great bitterness, great body, great beer. pmuzz (400) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 26, 2013
This is an odd one. It looks great with a reasonable aroma, upfront it has a nice taste but it quickly deteriorates to become really bitter and unpleasant. Overall not the best Black IPA. Jado (798) - Camp Hill, AUSTRALIA - FEB 20, 2013
Pours the expected ’midnight’ black, although some reddish highlights can still be seen. Fluffy tan head with visible carbonation. Toasty malt and pine resin come through in the aromas. Pine resin and hoppy bitterness are to the fore on tasting, but this mellows out leaving a more rounded chocolate and malt flavours at the end, with just a hint of vanilla. This is a big but very well balanced black IPA. Very tasty indeed. Maris (1533) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JAN 21, 2013
From a 500ml bottle on 21/1/2013. Pours a very dark amber with a medium to big tan head which disappears quickly. Has a pleasant pine hop aroma with some dark malts (particularly caramel) in the background. In the mouth, there’s lots of sweet milk chocolate and caramel, which is set off against a big piny resiny hop finish, which features a touch of roastiness as well. The palate is quite creamy and the carbonation lively. A very good black IPA with heaps of character. Makes me proud to be an Aussie!
