not a bad effort at all. no mistaking the attempted style, or provenance of the yeast strain - smells all over the place with earth, solvent, banana, pepper, random tropical fruit. sweet in mouth due to sweetness of spices, and lack of hops rather than malt sweetness - very dry to finish. lingering earth/banana/tropical fruit mix and pleasant maltiness in the finish with however a slightly worrying bushfire eucalyptus-smoke phenol, like throwing a damp gum tree branch on a fire. very drinkable and well-made in general, just needs a slightly cleaner ester profile (relatively speaking!) and MORE HOPS for my liking. voota (765) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 7, 2007
Pours cloudy golden with a fizzy head which somehow manages to hold itself up for a few minutes. Aroma is strong in the citrus department, loads of orange peel and a fair bit of coriander, honey and dusty yeast things.
Body is smooth and pretty faultless, decent combination of tartness, sweetness, fruit and spice. Maybe the coriander is a bit dominating, tartness is restrained and and ’wild’ character is pretty much non existent. At times it swings very close to being a belgian wit. The finish is spicy, and some of the phenols are reasonably easy to detect. Good to see another local saison available at a reasonable price.
