Gold wax bottle. Pours midnight black with a slight head that doesn’t last. Nose is chocolate and roasted malt. Tastes really sweet and sugary, roasted malt, a little bitter but mainly chocolate bitter. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 18, 2015
Bomber. Poured deep brown with a creamy beige head. The aroma picked up warm, roasted cocoa, vanilla, and espresso malts with accents of cardamom.. well-presented. The flavor found lightly-smoked black malts, and vanilla bean at the core, with tart coffee beans and light astringency around.. finished with a creamy roasted malt blend and a coffee kicker. Heavier-bodied and creamy on the palate.. overall well-balanced and very tasty! fiveacestx (970) - Texas, USA - MAR 12, 2015
Part of a flight at the brewery - jet black, nice sweet chocolate aroma and taste. Malty backbone. Medium to heavy finish. Fantomasus (291) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 13, 2015
Pours motor oil with a brown head that disappears. Not impressed. Aroma is pleasant and simple: caramel, floral, dough, and some vanilla. Taste is off balance sour/bitter. Some sweetness gets mashed by a big bitter finish. My criticisms seem to be aimed at elements that are common traits of this style but somehow this beer just doesn’t do Imperial Stout right. Too rough around the edges.
