2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
I cannot give this a remotely good score in good conscience. I don’t think that pilsner malts, nelson sauvin hops, and coriander blend together particularly well, since this beer tastes like some abortive hybrid of a belgian strong ale, an ipa, and a saison I’m tempted to believe this initial analysis. As Bells 10K proved, more is often less in beer world.
Bomber. Pours a clear, unfiltered orange with a white head and aroma of yeast and spices. Taste is of spices, yeast, floral notes, coriander, cloves, and citrus with a spicy, Belgian yeast finish. jjgmd (2161) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - OCT 2, 2015
With Z, pours a semiclear light Amber color with no head. Nose is fruity with some floral spices and yeast. Taste is spicy with nice floral yeasty notes.... also with some nice sweetness. Finish is dry and moderately long and ends on the same tasting notes. Quaff Score 8 / 10 decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JUL 25, 2014
Gold pour with white head and lace. Aroma is spicy, orange zest, and light abv. Flavor is sweet malty start with some orange zest, pepper, and a nice abv warmth. Medium bodied with good carbonation. pretty nice chinchill (4989) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 13, 2014
22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.
Pours with a slight haze, an apricot-amber color and a modest, soapy head.
Aroma: very fine and complex. Refined with some great fruity tones from the Belgian yeast.
Flavor: Fruits, yeast and biscuits. Hints of apricots and white grape juice. Rating reduced by aftertaste.
Feel: Medium-full body and juicy up front, lighter and drier by the finish. A touch hot (high ABV).
O: High ABV is partially hidden, particularly in the aroma. Nicely complex and balanced. nlderricks (16) - Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA - AUG 17, 2013
This was good. It followed a gross bottle so my perception may have been skewed, but overall a treat.

Brilliant golden waves of grain under a soft white head that lingers soft and fluffy.

Sweet, spicy, yeasty, and doughy. Cardamom and cumin. Mango, peach, pineapple, and apricots ooze juicy succulence. Dried apples.
Big bold doughy, chewy, yeasty, and spicy just as the nose promised. Candied pineapple, apricot, and peaches in the back. Nice clean mouthfeel quickly brings me back for more. Sweet chewy spicy bready fruity goodness in the middle – a beer to really chew on. Cardamom and cumin in the back. Touch of citrus skin tickles after each swallow. A gentle warmth settles into my chest.
A fine addition to the sometimes spotty Terrapin portfolio, this is one anniversary release I would love to see become part of their seasonal/yearly line of beers. Balance with bold flavors, it was a proper homage to Belgium and her strong ales.

Bottle at James’ place for a tasting. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Smells like cookies, brown sugar and a bit of malt. Medium bodied, spicy yeast with a bit of malt and sweet fruity esters. Finishes with a bit of bitterness. Tasty. BeerandBlues2 (13304) - Escondido, California, USA - MAR 14, 2013
Tap at Max’s Taphouse. Pours clear gold with a small, frothy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is cookie and biscuit malt with honey notes, coriander and citrus notes with light spicy hops, and Belgian yeast aromatics. Flavor is fruity esters, coriander, citrus, spicy hops, candi sugar with a sweet malt background and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. mnoud (318) - Martinsburg, West Virginia, USA - MAR 13, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 6, 2013 2013.03.13 - Terrapin Special Anniversary Ale 2012 - 22oz bottle in goblet glass. 2012 Vintage.
Aroma: sweetness, some subdued fruity esters. Really nice aroma.
Appearance: Pours around 8-10 on SRM scale, a mostly clear light gold. Typical white head/carbonation goes away fast leaving some foamy edge ring, bubbles can be observed from bottom.
Taste: Some drinks are a bit of lemony citrus on the tongue, peppery tonic spice. Some are sweetness, berries, some honey. Interesting and complex taste. A very nice brew, repeat purchase worthy. Hat tip to Appalachian Vintner in Asheville for the recommendation; I stopped in on my way through the area.
Palate/Mouthfeel: mostly light, a bit creamy. Needs a bit more carbonation but is ok as is. For nearly 10% abv this is amazingly smooth and tasty.
Aroma 7/10, Appearance 3/5, Taste 8/10, Palate 3/5, Overall 18/20
