22oz bottle pours a hazy brown with some spitty white head. Nose of caramel, brown sugar, orange, booze. Sweet flavor, oranges, malty, caramel, a little pine sol. Full, sticky finish. radagast83 (8193) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JUL 20, 2013
Bottle courtesy of noodleuser. Thanks! Poured a red-amber color, caramel, notes of sweet malts. Alcohol totally hidden. Wow. Travlr (25547) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUL 20, 2013
Bottle courtesy of noodleuse, a huge thanks! Hazy bright ruby amber color, scant edge head. Aroma of toasted and lightly spiced caramel. Taste is rich butterscotch and light booze. Nice. zizzybalubba (1879) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JUN 30, 2013
22 oz. bottle from Bruisin’ Ales, Asheville, NC. Murky brown pour with a quick off-white head. Aroma of maple, booze, and light citrus hops. Bourbon and oak are wonderfully integrated in the flavor yet not overpowering. Mixes vanilla, oak, tangerine, caramel, coconut, and just a touch of alcohol that can be found on the finish. Really nice! jgb9348 (6394) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JUN 22, 2013
Sampled this Horizontally with the BFM Version of this beer
Crystal clear (no muddiness like BFM) ruby tinted brown coloured body with a strong rust and copper glow and a very thin tan head - showing more carbonation than the flat BFM. Aroma of totally different notes than BFM - cigars, scotch, whiskey, oak, vanilla pods, tobacco and a lot of earth really come out here - THIS is a barley wine. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep, strong alcohol flavour at first with a pungent earthy, tobacco and spicey malt flavour showing a great platform for pit fruits, peat and a little chocolate flavour. Aftertaste shows a great complexity with the typical barley wine flavours - oak, vanilla, scotch, pit fruits, earth and peat all come out here and play around the palate nicely. Overall, a much more representative barley wine compared to BFM - but a totally different flavour profile. Great to sample, especially horizontally, but these are totally different beers, and this one is a barley wine, if that’s what you want and/or expected! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Arrowine in Arlington, Virginia on 24-November-2012 for US$8.99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-June-2013.

Bottle at Erzbierschof, Wintherthur. Pours reddish brown with no head. Delicious sour fruit aroma with hints of marcipane. Some yoghurt. Really great. hopscotch (11175) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 1, 2013
Draft... Clear ruby ale. The bouquet offers orange zest, candy sugar, dried dark fruits and fruitcake. I’m also picking up some rye spiciness. Full-bodied and oily with busy carbonation. The flavor is very sweet and borders on cloying - cotton candy and Karo brown syrup stand out. Finishes sticky and sweet. XmnwildX12 (2079) - Farmington, Minnesota, USA - APR 25, 2013
Bottle share by Brian, ruby/golden color with sparse white head. Aroma is a lot of pine, bit of malt as well. Taste is pine and a bit of caramel sweetness, bit of off flavors.

Bomber. Rust brown pour with minimal head. Nice nose of wood and sweet. Smooth full palate. Sweet caramel, low bitter, very nice. arkurzynski (2446) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 16, 2013
Bottle from JCB. Thanks! A murky red brown pour with little head. Aroma is quite sweet with cherry, thick caramel, mild dark fruits, booze, and faint degraded hops. Flavor continues with the sweet theme of cherry, syrupy malt, caramel, brown sugar, and faint dark fruit. Lingering sweet, syrupy malt. Some alcohol. Relatively thin, but slightly slick palate. A real lack of bourbon barrel character. Too much syrupy sweetness for my liking.
