Tap at Max’s Taphouse. Pours lightly hazy amber with a large, creamy off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is dates, cookie and caramel malt with vanilla and oak notes, bourbon and spicy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with medium bourbon and oak, vanilla and dates with light hops and bitterness and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. drowland (9078) - Georgia, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Bottle awhile back... not sure why I never rated. Rich brown pour with a decent khaki head. Slight BA aroma with earthiness and mustiness. Laid back malty flavor with a touch of BA and earthiness. Underwhelmed. Fritz123 (1597) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - FEB 27, 2013
Draft in snifter. Pours a hazy reddish-brown. Modest head and nice lace. Aroma of malt and bourbon. Taste is thick and alcohol overtones. Certainly has the almost bourbon flavor with maybe some charcoal. Also has spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. Very good barley wine. Very rich. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Medium-orange/brown in color with a light brown head, this seemingly barleywine-style ale has a dull, soft malt aroma, soapy sweet, with a touch of (perhaps) rye and earthy hops in the nose. It’s a lot like a very bright old ale in the mouth, a little fruity, and syrupy sweet on the palate. It finishes a little thick, but well balanced. Very much like an English barleywine, full and meaty but not cloying.

This draft brew from a beer bar poured a medium sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that were and left behind a no visible carbonation slightly hazy dark ruby red brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of Irish red malt and hops. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again. Sammy (12768) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 18, 2013
Very boozy, this characteristic dominates the taste. The bourbon is not as flavourful a choice as could have been made. Some rye edge, more just big malting. generous retained head on an Amber coloured body.
Doug’s bottle.So-so drinkability. SpringsLicker (3677) - Tennessee, USA - FEB 10, 2013
Pours hazy medium brown. Almost headless, very oily appearance pouring.
Aroma is nutty, with dates, caramel, molasses and vanilla.
The flavor follows the aroma. Sweet, full bodied sipper. Some hop bitterness in this but for the most part it’s a malt forward type BW. hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 9, 2013
22oz bottle. Poured a deep orange / amber color with an off white head. Aromas of toffee, some oaky/woodiness, caramel, grains and a trace of bourbon. Tastes of caramel, vanilla, brown sugary, dark fruits, bourbon, and some wood. jaghana (6283) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - FEB 5, 2013
Bottle 33cl from Map thanks ! A cloudy dark amber beer without head and carbonation. Nose is rich on cherry, oak and lactic touch, oude bruin like profile. Aroma is very fruity on apricot, apples and cherry, mostly dry and tart, long bitter aftertaste with dark malt notes, caramel, vinous, very oily, typical oude bruin body, leather notes. Not bad just too yeast like in the finish, less clean than the Belgian versions but quite interesting.
