4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Thanks to Ramenen. Bottle: I must have tried the new and improved one becuse it is very good. Complex and well balanced with a distinct red ale taste.
Complex malt nose, toffee but some drier bread / cracker as well. Similar competing hops with the grassy / citrusy aspect coming forward. Rich taste with the hops (unsurprisingly) up front and grassy / floral notes dominating. The balance is surprisingly good between the sweet and bitter. Medium body. Does not taste as strong as it is. This has a nice heavy chocolate coffee taste to it that leans heavy on the malty finish. Depending on the price, I would get it again.

Smells like pine and hopps. Wonder copper color with a tan head. Nice citrus and hoppy flavor. Bottle pour at home. Got from a friend that was in Atlanta.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a thin lacy head. Aroma of citrus, pine and caramel. Flavor of caramel malts, pine, citrus and grass. aumentm (452) - North Carolina, USA - APR 23, 2015
This is an oak aged imperial red ale. This monster has good palate and nice aroma. Smells like a malt bath.

08 vintage...8.3 abv on label...imperial red ale on label. as an imperial ipa it would have failed completely. too malty for an ipa, and almost too malty for a Ired too. no telling what month of 08 thi was bottled, and it tasted past it’s prime, with descriptors in our party of wet cardboard and dirt. had potential though. it looked and felt great. big full body. sweetish malts were bigger than the not so fresh hops (no floral, only bittering effect left). maybe this was better last year at some point. i hope so based on the rating, but it was an average beer and a subpar imperial tonight. too bad..."

Reviewed from notes. Rcvd from my sister.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking bronzed orange color with a decent one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing that slid into the beer.
The aroma had some grapefruity/citrusy notes that lent a decent amount of pine entering in as it warmed.
The taste had a nice sweet citrusy aspect running over my taste buds.
On the palate, this one sat at/about a nice light to medium in body. It proved itself to be somewhat sessionable. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but not overbearing.
Overall, I say this was a decent DIPA, its nothing to go bonkers about but worthy of having again. hurdlecoachkm (2) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 6, 2014 does not count
Smell the oak. Drank from the bottle, was very nice for a relaxing day. A nice oak aged ale bnielsen13 (264) - Richfield, Minnesota, USA - MAR 18, 2014
Growler at home. Pours red with a mild head, I think the growler leaked. Aroma is caramel and toffee and piney and citrusy hops. Flavor is malt forward with the hops somewhat muted. I like it. BrettTaylor (776) - Radford, Virginia, USA - JAN 25, 2014
Pours a reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Medium amounts of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel, hops (citrus). Taste is initially a touch sweet, then a touch if bitterness, then a smooth round malty finish. Excellent with a good burger.
