Tasted at WBF. Pour: amber orange. Head: off white creamy. Aroma: hoppy, some malt, floral nose. Flavor: grassy, some hops, grainy, too hoppy for a brown. Palate: smooth. Finish: clean. SpringsLicker (3660) - Tennessee, USA - NOV 29, 2007
Noogfest Thanks to kp for bringing this one to share.
Pours clear light brown with a tan head.
Big malt aroma with some hops in back.
Sweet start, building bitterness. There’s an off flavor that I can’t id that detracts from the score for this one. Hank1980 (966) - Athens, Georgia, USA - NOV 16, 2007
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2008 Sampled on draught. Appearance is an amber brown with a small off-white head. Nose is of light citrus and sweet malt. Taste is also of light citrus with some sweet caramel malts. Finish is bitter from the hops. Mouthfeel is smooth with a medium body. tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - NOV 12, 2007
Draught. Pours dark, brilliant amber/mahogany with pretty tight beige head. The aroma is a surprising amount of grapefruit, along with some toast and caramel. The flavor is grapefruit and other citrus up front, then it mellows into some bread and caramel. Some tannic and sugary notes come out in the finish, and it leaves a somewhat sweet aftertaste. Pretty good. fro2218 (471) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 1, 2007
Nice brown color. light hop aroma and some nutty aromas as well. I like the nutty brown flavors and the more than usual hop character. A nice beer.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2008 clear brown with a small tan head. aroma is mostly hops. flavor, again, is mostly hoppy with a hint of cocoa. not really a favorite of mine. too much hops. emacgee (4697) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - OCT 7, 2007
UPDATED: AUG 29, 2008 Got a larger bottle of this for a larger sample. Pours a nice copper with some bright ruby highlights in the sun. The head is a finger or two thick, creamy, and yellow. The nose was sweet and hoppy, nice citrusy hop profile over the caramel toffee malt base. Fruity and sweet in the nose. The flavor is sweet, a nice balancing bitterness, some sweet caramel, malty, some nuttyness. The palate is a tad bitter and nicely balanced with a malty sweetness. I find this to be pretty underrated. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 5, 2007
RBSG 07 Minneapolis Grand Tasting: Brown ebony, no head or lacing. Nose of earthy citrusy hops, decent malts, some pale thin, some sweet chewy ones. The flavor is hoppy, nice and fresh. Fruity and beautiful. NachlamSie (3522) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 4, 2007
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2010 Draught. Pours a reddish brown with a small whitish head. The aroma is earthy with whisky barrel notes and baking chocolate. The hops and malt interact in a way which generates a lot of woody bittersweetness. This is not very sticky or sugary, I get bakers chocolate, minimal nuttiness, and soy sauce. I liked it, nothing spectacular, but I liked it.

on tap at Fox & Parrot. Pours a deep dark brown with ruby tints. This is darker than I remember. Oh, wow, definitely hoppier than I remember. Solid grapefruit and clean pine comes through. I really can’t detect much malt that would indicate this being a brown ale. The flavor packs a clean punch of PNW hops with a finish of nutty cacao that finally makes a hint at somehing other than IPA. This is better than I recall. Good stuff!
Brewgrass 07** Poured brown and thin with a white head.Aroma was burntness and caramel. Flavor was chocolate, caramel and nuts.Had a piney, bitter finish. This was a strange one.
