Sample at Khyber with Vin. Pours a deep brown with thick beige head. Nose is vanilla, oak, caramel and some piney hops. The oak and vanilla flavors really come through strong. Good hop bitterness but I don’t pick up a lot of that flavor. Good beer but doesn’t taste much like a DIPA. OnWisconsin (132) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 18, 2013
So glad I was able to get this from the east coast from a good friend. Poured with the sediments in the glass a murky caramel color with very little off white head dissipating quickly. Aroma hits you up front with oak, malt and some zest. The hops have faded u fortunately. Taste hits you up front with a sweet maltiness followed by some earthiness and finishes with a lingering bitterness. Very well balanced and has a very nice smooth medium mouthfeel. Sample with Tom at Khyber, notes of oak, caramel, hops, and sweet malts, lotd of hops but still balanced. Medium to fuller bodied. Pretty good, more of a hoppy barelywine. JFGrind (2050) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Oaked aged almost anything works for me, Big Hoppy Monster did not disappoint. Big, full bodied 2XIPA, balanced between bitterness and oak, malt and booziness. This mahogany mash-up satisfied. jbruner (4747) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - FEB 16, 2013
Pours a translucent copper color from the bottle with thin off-white head and moderate lacing. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, and vanilla from the oak, no real hops. Taste is the caramel up front, fruit and slight vanillas in the middle, bit of floral hops on the end. Decent, but not a hoppy monster, and I would have used American oak for a bigger presence.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2013 12oz bottle from a recent trade... Pours a deep caramel hued consistency and topped with a small film of off-white head which reduces down to a thin filmy ring... Aroma of oxidized caramel malt which has little to no oak or hop influence which is one pet peeve of mine when it comes down to trading... Flavored are caramel and a light sense of wood. Doubtful of a fresh sample with a light woody texture but hops are gone to say the very least. Not a good sample. Itzjerm (2872) - Taft, Tennessee, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Aroma is boozy. Appearance thin head. Taste is sweet, not balanced... and not hoppy. Palate is okay. Dont get me wrong, this isn’t bad, just not impressive. I wont be looking for it again... there is a slight oaked flavor, nothing special. arone12 (929) - Maryland, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Pours a reddish orange color. Nice hoppy flavor with an oaky finish. Smells like wood. jeremytoni (3058) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - FEB 8, 2013
From a bottle poured an amber color with a small amount of head. Strong sweet hoppy flavor with a lingering finish. Garbageman (487) - Lexington, South Carolina, USA - JAN 30, 2013
From bottle. Pours deep copper color with small head. Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruit and booze. Taste follows. Slight oak but the sweetness very is what you taste. A little off balanced.
