Black, Opaque beer. Starts off tasting like a fairly typical IPA, strong, but not overbearing. Fairly smooth for an IPA. As the beer warms, more of a malt chocolate flavor arises. Thewade (340) - USA - MAY 7, 2010
Nice beer. Alcahol hidden very well for those not crazy about high gravity beers. I would classify as a hoppy porter. egajdzis (6776) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 7, 2010
Dark brown with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, toast, vanilla, roast, light smoke, pine, and citrus. Taste of roasty, citrus, piney, resiny hops, and a bitter grassy finish. Tsotsi (178) - Florida, USA - MAY 6, 2010
22oz bottles. Pours black with a nice size light brown head. Aroma is hoppy and slight malts. Nice citrus hops flavor followed by roasted malts, and ends smokey and a nice bitter finish. Finish lasts for a while which is nice. Medium bodied. Gachupines (1252) - USA - MAY 6, 2010
Appearance is black with a tan head. Aroma is somewhat hoppy with some roasted malt. Maybe a hint of chocolate as well. Flavor is slightly smoky but sweet as well. Hops are also present but buried under the other flavors. Overall, pretty solid beer with some interesting flavors but the IPA does get overwhelmed a little.

From a bottle poured dark brown with a fair amount of head. Nice light malty hoppy flavor with a quick finish. kassner (1706) - Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2010
not sure about the side project but this is an interesting IPA in this new dark style. More smoke and spice than others though the underlying IPA is nothing special. Dark brown with nice lacing. adrian910ss (2597) - Doylestown, PA, USA - MAY 4, 2010
22 oz bomber. Pours a dark black cola with a foamy medium sized light brown head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, faint pine and hops. Taste of roasted malts, light pine, hops and a hint of citrus. DialSquare (5144) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 4, 2010
Tried on tap the other day - rating is a bomber from fermentation lounge. Dark brown pour with a frothy mocha head and sheets of lace. Aroma is a pleasant subtle mix of pine, floral, citrus, roasted malt and cocoa. Flavors are citrus hop ipa up front followed by earthy roasted malts and wood. Smokey vibe to it - in a good way. Lively medium texture. Astringent resiny bitterness in the long finish. Kind of comes off as two different beers at once. Not sure if that’s what the black ipa style is about. If it is, well played. thagr81_us (175) - Gaffney, South Carolina, USA - MAY 3, 2010
Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Spaten Mug. This brew poured a dark brown (almost competely black) with a one finger tan head. The aroma of this brew was piney. The taste of this was a very smooth earthy flavor that intensified upon swallowing. The hops were very subtle and almost missed. It maintained evident lacing throughout. Overall this was a very nice brew that is easy to drink while still maintaining an earthy flavor. With that said, I would have enjoyed it much more if there was some balance to the earthy flavor. This was still quite good for a Black IPA.
