Bottled. A dark brown beer with a red shine under a brown head.. The aroma has notes of hops, roasted malt, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with roasted malt, wood, hops, and lemon, leading to a bitter finish. Papsoe (25063) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 23, 2011
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Fresh aroma hops in the nose combined with sweet roast vanilla - licorice allsorts. Medium body, again sweet roast and a dry and hoppy finish from both hops and roasted malts. But in general not a great Black IPA. 230511 patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 11, 2011
sample at RBSG 2010 - Pours very dark brown and smells of pine heavy hops. The flavor has the expected dark roast malt as well as the ample hops of an IPA. The pine of the aroma continues as a tasty accent. Medium bodied. Very good. SpringsLicker (3639) - Tennessee, USA - APR 11, 2011
Pours black with a tall tan head.
The citrus hop aroma combines with a soft roast malt characteristic of a good porter.
Hoppy, yet dark and malty flavor. Some bitter coffee on the back end.
Nice medium body. Rosebud butternuts (2396) - Denton, Texas, USA - APR 8, 2011

So elusive and rare! I played a losing game of hide and seek with this guy for awhile. Then I picked one up at my local store, sadly in non-growler format; although, I did consider buying a few and pouring them into a growler just to taste the totally awesome rarity effect that sitting inside 64 ounces of glass apparently has on this beer. I was too dazzled at the tasting opportunity to review at the time. From notes.
Pours near black with a bit of head. Nose is some citrus hops and a good deal of roast. Taste is slightly bitter and dry with roast. Hints of coffee. Nice citrus and a bit of pine. Medium body. Pretty good. It’d take on the good captain again.

Bottle from ibrew2or3. Thanks! Nose is roasty with notes of dark chocolate sweetness here and there as well as some muted hops(flat earthy, and lightly papery notes). Pours dark brown almost black, nice head and lace. The flavor is more roasted malts, darker sweetness, some residual sugar. Light earthy bitterness, hops are flat and almost stale and this reminds me more of a foreign stout or something along that line right now. Not bad, just not really what i was expecting from a Black IPA. andyhite (308) - Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA - FEB 26, 2011
taste is mildly hoppy with a growing smoky finish. clean and silky on the palate. good lacing. strong coffee finish, but still very smooth and inviting. rock on. jsquire (4489) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - JAN 18, 2011
