Not quite black but more deep brown with off white head and thinned lacing on the side. Thinned bittering hops step off the top with some light roastiness coming through on the side of the smell, although the aromas feel a little flat. The taste itself is lightly bittering with a laser directed cedar/pine floral kick which is nice but lacks rounded mouthfeel. A decent brew overall and unique approach. drseusszb200 (687) - Florida, USA - MAY 31, 2010
Poured very dark with a nice off white head that gave good lacing smelled of hops tasted of sweet hops to start with roasted aftertaste merlin48 (656) - Jenkins, Kentucky, USA - JUL 3, 2010
Bomber pours a dark mahogany body with a three finger head that retains well and leaves abundant sticky lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, grapefruit hops, and a hint of dark roasty coffee. Full medium body has a creamy carbonation. Taste has earthy and pinky grapefruity hops with lots of milk chocolate notes. Just a hint of roasty coffee. Finishes with a slight earthiness and a dry roasty maltiness, but still more like a hoppy porter than a black IPA. BierMeHoos (644) - Maryland, USA - MAR 31, 2015
Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Appearance is black, opaque, and khaki head. Aroma is floral, piney, and citrus hops. Taste is same, but with caramel malt flavor. Palate is medium to full. I don't love this style as much as others do, but still decent. brewski519 (644) - Morrisville, North Carolina, USA - JUN 26, 2010
22 oz bomber - Pours a dark brown to almost black with some reddish highlights and thin tan head. Aroma is sweet, floral, citrus, malty with roasted notes . Flavor is definitely what you would expect from the aroma with some chocolate mixed into the combination which was perfect. Medium body with a pleasing floral hop and citrus finish. Very good black IPA.

22 oz bottle tasted blind on 4/9/10. Pours dark brown with huge mocha head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel with hints of oak and pine. Nice sweetness then a great bitter mocha finish. Balanced carbonation that really brought out the roasted malt. jdb288 (584) - Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA - JUL 21, 2014
Fresh bottle from jbruner. Pours midnight black with little to no head. Aroma is s’mores, a bit of chocolate, fir tree, pine cone. Taste is sweet, light/medium body with decent amount of combination. Interesting play between the dark, roasty/chocolatey malt and hops (what style?). Not bad. bikesandbeers (547) - san diego, California, USA - JUN 24, 2010
22 Oz Bottle shared by WeeHeavySD in a hotle room in vegas. pours nice black with a thick beige head. Hoppy aroma with ints of roasty malt. Flavor is very well balenced with some nice roasty and sweet notes offset with some bittering hops in the finsih but not so much, fbody is fairly light and easy drinking. very tasty and nearly sessionable. carl4beer (522) - Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA - JUN 4, 2010
22oz. pours near black with a nice creamy looking tan head. very stout looking... aroma is pine and hint of citrus. mouthful has a huge pine forest with a little cream mouth feel. hard to find the roasted malt for a while, but comes around in the finish, which lingers with big hops as well. i would put this on high on the BIPA list, which is not too long... About average for this style. Black IPAs are hit or miss for me, so this falls near the border. Decent amount of hops, though I prefer more of a malt balance. Aroma has some mild citrus and pine, but overpowered by some kind of musty smell. Glad I tried this in the winter mix-pack bundle, but wouldn’t really want to sample this in a bomber or growler.
