Pretty disapointing DIPA. VERY VERY malty. The malt is definity more powerful than the hop. Not what you woudl expect for somethign called hopzilla. Not very bitter at all. Was this an old bottle? I dont think so. Thin fading head. Somewhat thick on tongue... not bad in these terms. Palate is mild... but honestly some of the other IPA from Terrapin is more of a hopzilla. jgb9348 (6316) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - AUG 20, 2014
Hazy copper and bronzed coloured body with an orange glow and a thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rich dank hops with a lot of honey, malt, earth and even some perfume at the end. Full-bodied; Strong alcohol and gin notes at first with a kick of resin and pine and a lot of rich malt noticeable as well. Aftertaste has a bit of an alcohol bite at the beginning with some resin, pine, pineapple and floral hoppy notes, all with a very mild sweetness at the finish. Overall, a decent Imperial IPA that shows more alcohol notes than I expected with less sweetness, but the balance is a bit off compared to others that are better for the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 07-April-2014 for US$3,99 sampled at home in Washington on 20-August-2014. radagast83 (8111) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - AUG 18, 2014
Bottle. Poured a clear copper color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was pine resin notes, some citrus and floral hops, sweet caramel malts. Flavor was pretty well balanced, with some nice pine resin and sweet malt notes to balance it out. Alcohol is present, clearly. Split this bottle with a friend. In exchange for a couple of local Ohio beers one of the gems I got was this excellent southern double IPA. Terrapin has seldom disappointed. This was no exception - a well balanced hop bomb that is everything a good release should be.
Aroma / Appearance - A carbonated base glows with a radiant orange warmth. Soft foamy head contrasts the liquid beneath. Malt driven with the scent of polished orange rinds, floral hops, and smooth textures, the bouquet may lack the aggressiveness of the hop forward West Coast examples. Nonetheless it retains its own form of freshness that invites further reflection.
Flavor / Palate - A chewy mouthfeel sticks to the corners of the palate. Hops, rosy flavors, and tangerines brighten the profile. Malty dough carries to a smooth sweet finish that has a certain booziness. Although there may be better imperial IPAs available I would still seek out new Terrapin side project releases like this as time permitted.
Bottle. Hazy, deep golden body. Frothy white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, floral hops, toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Alcoholic finish. Lots of malts in the flavor and a muted hop bill that didn’t match the promise of a "hoppy goodness." So it tastes more like a strong ale to me. In that regard, it was OK.

Pours cloudy amber with low white head. Aroma of resin, grapefruit, peach and mango. Taste is very balanced fruit sweet and hoppy bitter with a resin finish that kicks in late and lingers. Body is rich and almost creamy with soft carbonation. PhilJackson80 (531) - Oklahoma, USA - JUN 27, 2014
12 oz Bottle. Tasted on 6/27/14. Beer from Total Wine Tampa, FL. The has a sweet smell with some grapefruit. The taste is a little too sugar sweet to me but does have a good malt to mostly balance it out but not quite enough. Not my favorite DIPA.

Pours cloudy orange. Nose reminds me of a grapefruit drink. Some citrus and caramel taste - alcohol present, too. Hops present from start to finish - more of a constant bitter undertone rather than a bite on the finish. It's good - but not as good as Firestone Walker or Dogfish 90 imperial IPA.
