Volume 22. Sometimes things get a little weird when theres a full moon. Floating into "Side Project 22" comes "Moonray" Chocolate Orange Weizenbock. Our rendition of this traditional style is clearly a hoax with the addition of cocoa nibs and orange peel for a greater depth of flavor. With its big malt presence and hint of banana from the yeast, this beer may just make you hotel at the moon.

Had on our old rating system. Aroma was ok and taste wasnt bad, but it was not as chocolately or orangey as expected. Mouth and color were good. bottle

Eh I wasnt a fan of this one. Smells decently of chocolate and toasted malt. Flavors consist of chocolate and unnatural chemicals. This had no resemblance to a Weizen Bock. I love Terrapin but this beer just wasnt very good.

Deep rich brown coloured body wiht a cola glow and a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of chocolate, yeast, bread, alcohol, caramel and a hint of oatmeal - relatively strong. Medium-bodied; Strong fruity flavours at first with some oranges, cherries and a touch of citrus coupled with a malt kick, some toasted malt and perhaps some specialty grains and a little bread and yeast finish, all with a light sweetness. Aftertaste shows quite a bit of complexity and more of a fruity sweetness akin to a fruit beer or even a wine cooler than anything else - but a nice flavour at the finish is interesting and doesnt really fit a style at all. Overall, a nice and rich beer with some interesting flavour profiles but no real defined style. Nice to try and not a bad option! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Logan Circle, P St NW), DC on 13-September-2014 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 16-April-2015 a few hours before leaving for the South.

Bottle from ABC. Hmmm....Aroma is weird. Chocolate notes are there with spices, piney hops, and a strange chemical aroma. Flavor wise, its about the same. Cocoa, pine, lemon pine sol, sharp astringent flavors, bitter. I dont know it has hints of good things but they are overshadowed by the bad. Its not horrible but my least favorite from Terrapin for sure.

Brown color, brown head. Not great. Metallic, dry, roasty, lightly bitter. A bit of chocolate I suppose. Not much orange. Meh.

The aroma has chocolate citrus and chemicals. The appearance is brown and flat. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall not to good.

It's got a nice sour start with a mild chocolate and orange oil while not being citrusy, it's weak on the palate and low carbonation ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2015 22 oz bottle served at about 45F. Very dark clear orange-brown body covered by a bubbly tan head. limited lacing; good retention. Smells a bit off but probably just the mix of orange (peel?) and weizenbock with 8.3% ABV. Some milk chocolate too. Flavor is better but still a bit diappointing. Orange and chocolate are in prudent levels with an obvious weizenbock base, but dont gel as hoped. Also, a bit boozy (as is common for style). Feel: medium body with medium, soft carbonation.

Pours a murky orange brown with a small tan head. There is some sediment floating in there very noticeable. Aroma is mostly orange with a little chocolate, and pine. Taste is also the orange up front with cocoa, and hints of pine. Earthy hop bitterness in there too. Slightly thick texture. Unusual, but grew on me after a while.
