Taking the Orient and the rest of the world by storm, Krunkles returns! In this edition of the bearded IPA brewers saga, Samurai Krunkles, as he was once known in the Far East, pulls out all the hops from his katanas sheath to make this Asian flared brew. While traveling around the Pacific in a souped up rickshaw pulled by his trusty side kick Cato, Krunkles uncovered unique brewing ingredients such as jasmine rice, jasmine green tea and the finest ginger the Orient had to offer for this Samurai masters ale. Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 8/29/12

Aroma: The nose is herbal candies/smarties, ginger, other spice, and some more candied sugar
Appearance: Pours a clear golden-orange color with an off-white head and mid-heavy, spotty lace
Flavor: Tastes fairly heavy sweet, with candied sugar, tea, a good amount of spice, and some hop notes
Palate: The body is medium (leaning light), with a clean feel, a soft carbonation, and a sticky, sugary finish
Overall Impression: Well, for one thing, this is certainly not an IPA, lets just clear that up right off the bat. As for what it is, it is unusual and too sweet, but it isnt bad. This one is certainly interesting. I cant recall, off the top of my head at least, ever tasting a beer that reminded me of eating a pack of smarties close to this much, so Ive got to give them credit for being original. I think the overall score would be higher if it wasnt listed as an IPA.

I found this one more interesting than enjoyable. I guess the green tea/ginger/rice gives it that unique flare. But overall, I found it to just be a bland pale ale. The hops were muted, but the sorachi ace did poke through. The other krunkles was much better imho.

Very different ipa. Had it on tap at roosters beak in augusta ga. Not as bitter a most IPA and some floral under tones.

Pours a clear golden with a frothy, white swiftly dissipating head. Has some white lacing. Aroma of juicy fruit and green tea. Very earthy hops. Smells amazingly sweet. The earthy hops overrule the sweet aromas. Medium body with a sticky texture.Taste lingers on the roof of the mouth. Soft carbonation. Green Tea compliments the hops in a lovely fasion. Finish is a lasting bitterness. Very refreshing and easy to drink. Like drinking sunshine.....

22 oz bomber from Spirits Crossroads. Poured a slightly hazed orange body with a large foamy off white head. Aroma is bland, citrusy orange and wet toast, hint of old tea bags. Flavor isnt that great, there is a weird perfumey floral middle flavor. Initial flavor is toast crusts and then a finish of harsher citrus rinds. Body is solid with a medium to slightly fuller bodied and strong carbonation with a lingering aftertaste of hop bitterness. This is by far one of the weaker beers in what is a decent series of special beers.

Pours hazy burnt orange color with white head. Aromas of grassy hops, citrus and spices. Biscuit malt and citrus flavors with green tea and some other spices. I was hoping the sorachi hops would be more prominent. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

On draught at Redlight Redlight. The beer pours a dark amber-gold color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of hops, herbs and malt. Medium body with a floral hops character and notes of biscuit malt and sweet spice. The finish is moderately bitter with an herbal hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

8/19/12. 22oz bottle from Grassroots. Hazy orange pour with a small khaki head that fades fast and barely laces. Surprisingly mild aroma with some citrus, biscuits, bread, caramel, and basically none of the listed ingredients. Slightly bolder flavor with definite tea along with caramel, biscuits, bread, and a bit of citrus. I was really hoping for more ginger and some of the other aspects. Another average entry from Terrapin.

Pours a slightly cloudy tangerine orange. Somewhat complex hop aroma- juicy citrus. The nose conceals unique flavor. Dominant floral notes from the tea, subtle ginger spice, medium body and just off-dry. Would like to have seen more crossover between the hoppy aroma and the adjunct body, but not bad.
